On a PS5 Pro, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. PlayStation says this option is on by default and is available only on PS5 Pro consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. It affects image quality in certain compatible games; it does not guarantee a resolution or frame-rate increase in every game.

Find and adjust the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting

  1. Confirm that your console is a PS5 Pro in the CFI-7000 model group. PlayStation’s PS5 Pro support guide identifies that model group as eligible for the setting.
  2. From the home screen, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  3. Select Enhance PSSR Image Quality. PlayStation says it is enabled by default. To change it, switch it off or back on from this same menu.
  4. Launch a game that supports Enhanced PSSR and assess its image in that title. Sony says results vary by game.

What the setting changes—and what it does not

PSSR is Sony’s AI-enhanced upscaling technology for compatible games. Sony describes the system-level Enhance PSSR Image Quality option as improving image quality in certain PSSR-compatible titles; its PS5 Pro page specifically describes enhanced fine-detail clarity and image stability. Those are general descriptions, not a promise of a particular visual result or performance improvement in every game. See Sony’s PS5 Pro page for its feature description.

This console setting is separate from the Resolution option in Video Output. Sony says the console detects the connected TV’s capabilities, and Automatic selects the highest resolution the TV supports. PSSR support does not itself mean the console’s output resolution setting has changed.

A 4K display is relevant if you want to view compatible games at 4K output, but Sony’s instructions do not say that a 4K TV is required just to enable or disable Enhance PSSR Image Quality. HDR, VRR, and 120 Hz Output are separate display options, whose availability or behavior depends on the TV and, in some cases, the game. They are not universal PSSR requirements.

Check whether your game supports Enhanced PSSR

Sony’s PS5 Pro page lists these games as supporting Enhanced PSSR: Resident Evil Requiem, SILENT HILL f, SILENT HILL 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. The list can change, so check the official page for the current lineup. Being enhanced for PS5 Pro does not by itself establish that a game uses Enhanced PSSR; Sony’s broader figure of more than 100 PS5 titles enhanced for PS5 Pro is not a count of Enhanced PSSR games.

Some games also offer their own PS5 Pro graphics modes. Those choices are made in the game and are distinct from the system-level PSSR switch. For example, Naughty Dog’s Lead Programmer Vincent Marxen described a PS5 Pro-specific mode for The Last of Us Part II Remastered that renders at 1440p, upscales to 4K with PSSR, and targets 60 fps. That statement applies to that game mode, not to PSSR games generally.

If the setting is missing or you are unsure which value to use

  • The option is not shown: Check that the console is a PS5 Pro from the CFI-7000 model group. Sony does not document this setting for other model groups.
  • You are choosing between on and off: Leave it on if you prefer the result in a compatible game; switch it off from the same menu if you prefer that game’s appearance with it disabled. Evaluate the change in the game itself, since results vary.
  • You want to change output resolution: Use the separate Resolution control under Video Output. Keeping it on Automatic lets the PS5 select the highest resolution the connected TV supports.
