Yes, but not in one simple, fully confirmed shared timeline. Goichi “Suda51” Suda explicitly said that Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes connects to The Silver Case, and pointed to The 25th Ward: The Silver Case as a way to understand that link. Other Suda51 games share characters, references, or creative influence, but those connections do not all establish the same kind of story continuity.

What kind of connection does Suda51 mean?

It helps to separate three different ideas: a confirmed story connection, a character or reference appearing across games, and one game influencing the creative direction of another. Suda has discussed all three, but evidence for one should not be treated as proof of the others.

Connection type What it means here What it does not establish
Explicit story connection Suda said Travis Strikes Again and The Silver Case are connected, and said The 25th Ward helps explain the connection. Gematsu, April 9, 2018. That every Suda51 game belongs to one continuous timeline.
Character reuse or crossover A character may recur, or a game may refer to another. Suda described recurring characters as actors taking different roles. Game Informer, March 1, 2017. That the character’s appearances all happen to the same person in one shared chronology.
Creative influence Suda described No More Heroes as a reaction to Killer7. A plot crossover between the two games.

The clearest story link: Travis Strikes Again and The Silver Case

In a 2018 interview, Suda answered directly when asked whether Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes connects with The Silver Case: “Yes, they are connected. If you play The 25th Ward, you’ll understand the connection.” Gematsu’s interview is the clearest creator-attributed confirmation of a story link among the games discussed here.

The useful distinction is between context and prerequisite. Suda identified The 25th Ward as helpful for understanding the connection; that statement does not establish that players must finish The Silver Case or The 25th Ward to follow the central No More Heroes story. If your interest is specifically the cross-series thread, those are the games he pointed toward.

How No More Heroes relates to Killer7

Suda described No More Heroes as a creative response to Killer7, saying, “Everything within No More Heroes is a reaction to Killer7, even to the setting itself, which is some kind of West Coast, good-times atmosphere.” Game Informer reports this as an explanation of creative direction: the games differ in tone and approach because No More Heroes was conceived in reaction to the earlier game. It is evidence of influence, not confirmation that their plots share a timeline.

Why familiar characters do not prove one timeline

Suda has compared his use of recurring characters to Osamu Tezuka’s Star System: a character can return in another work in a different role, much like an actor playing a new part. Explaining this approach, he said that a figure functions as an actor for him across works including The Silver Case, Flower, Sun, and Rain, and Killer7. Game Informer, March 1, 2017.

That framework is why a returning name, face, or character reference needs to be read carefully. It may be a deliberate crossover or a recurring performance, but it is not, by itself, proof that every appearance is the same character living through a single shared sequence of events.

What No More Heroes 3 adds

In discussing No More Heroes 3, Suda talked about a connection involving Midori and Fleming from Shadows of the Damned. This supports describing the later game as containing cross-game characters or references, rather than treating it as the origin of the more explicit Travis Strikes Again–The Silver Case link. Suda’s comments on these characters and series ownership were reported by Siliconera.

Does this mean all Suda51 games share a universe?

No such broad conclusion is established by these creator comments. The evidence supports a specific confirmed connection, recurring characters and references, and an acknowledged creative influence. Those are meaningful links, but they are not interchangeable. Suda also noted that the No More Heroes property is mainly owned by Marvelous, while The Silver Case and Flower, Sun, and Rain are Grasshopper-owned; ownership can affect whether a crossover is possible, but it does not determine a story’s canon. Siliconera’s interview discusses that context.
