To allow ads or other blocked content on just one website, add a site-specific exception in the product that is blocking it. Avoid a global “turn off” setting: it changes protection for more than the affected site. If the blocker has individual site controls, try the narrowest relevant control first—such as allowing a page’s cosmetic filtering—before allowlisting the entire site.
First identify which blocker is blocking the page
A site may be filtered by a browser extension, the browser itself, desktop filtering software, DNS filtering, or more than one of these at once. An exception in one product does not necessarily override another. Look for the blocker’s icon or open the relevant app’s settings before changing anything.
“Whitelist” and “allowlist” both refer to a site exception. The label varies by product, and the scope can vary too: an exception may disable all of that product’s filtering for the site, or change only one feature.
Choose the narrowest setting that fits the problem
If a site says it detected an ad blocker, or its layout or content looks broken, you may not need to allow every ad and resource. Where available, first change the specific site-level control that might be responsible. For example, uBlock Origin has a per-site switch for cosmetic filtering (element hiding); its project documentation says this can address some detection cases without disabling broader blocking. Other per-site controls—such as those for remote fonts, JavaScript, or popups—affect different behavior and are not interchangeable. See uBlock Origin’s per-site switches.

If a narrow change does not solve the issue, use the product’s site allowlist or other site-wide control. An allowlist can exempt the site from all of that product’s blocking rules, not just ads, so content the product would otherwise block may load. This does not automatically turn off browser security features or other blockers.
Allow a website in common blockers
uBlock Origin
While viewing the affected site, open the uBlock Origin popup and use its per-site controls. For a page-detection or layout problem, try the cosmetic-filtering switch first rather than switching off all filtering. Brave Shields
- Open the affected site in Brave.
- Click the Lion icon at the right side of the address bar.
- Open Advanced controls to change an individual Shields setting for the site currently in focus.
- Reload the page if the change does not appear immediately.
Brave’s Simple view does not let you change individual settings; it does let you toggle Shields up or down. Turning Shields down is broader than changing one control. Brave says custom choices for a site are remembered, including when global Shields settings change. Brave’s guide to global and site-specific Shields settings is dated February 11, 2025.

- Click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon.
- Open the gear or settings view.
- Choose Allowlisted websites, enter the website URL, and choose Add website.
Adblock Plus uses “smart allowlisting”: the site stays allowlisted for seven days, and visiting it during that period renews the seven-day period. If you do not revisit within that time, it is removed from the allowlist. This duration is stated in Adblock Plus Help Center documentation accessed October 3, 2026. Adblock Plus: disable blocking on a specific website.
Other Adblock Plus platforms have different routes: on iOS, open Safari Blocking > Allowlisted Sites; in macOS Safari, use the extension menu and its Allowlist tab; in Samsung Browser for Android, open the ABP app’s allowlist and add the URL. The desktop-extension steps above do not apply universally.

AdGuard
In the AdGuard browser extension, add the site to the Allowlist; the knowledge base says allowlist changes are saved in User rules. AdGuard browser extension Allowlist.
In AdGuard desktop software, you can use the browser Assistant toggle, add the domain under General > Edit Allowlist, or add a user rule. The support page gives this advanced example for excluding a whole domain: @@||domain.com^$document. Start with the app’s allowlist unless you specifically need to edit a rule. Chrome’s built-in intrusive-ads control
This setting affects Chrome’s own “Intrusive ads” behavior; it does not necessarily change the behavior of an ad-blocking extension also installed in Chrome. On desktop:
- Open the affected site and select View site information next to the address.
- Choose Site settings.
- Under Permissions, set Intrusive ads to Allow.
- Reload the page.
Chrome also documents a global option to allow ads on all sites, but that is broader than this site-specific route. Google Chrome Help explains that “Chrome removes ads from websites that violate the Better Ads Standards.” Google Chrome Help: intrusive ads.

- Confirm the product. Check whether the block comes from the extension, the browser’s built-in feature, desktop software, or another layer.
- Verify the scope. Make sure the exception was added in the product that is actually blocking the page, and that it applies to the right site.
- Reload the page. Chrome specifically instructs users to reload after changing its intrusive-ads permission. Reloading is also a practical troubleshooting step after other site-level changes.
- Check for overlapping filters. If one product’s exception has no effect, inspect other extensions, browser protections, DNS filters, or network-level filters.
- Check DNS filtering separately. AdGuard notes that a site can remain blocked after an app exclusion if the selected DNS server is filtering it. In that case, address the DNS allowlist or server choice; an app-level exception alone may not be enough.
Remove an exception when you no longer need it
Use the same product’s site settings or allowlist to remove the exception. For Adblock Plus, the allowlist help page links to instructions for removing a site. In Brave, review the affected site’s Shields settings. Undoing an exception in one product will not remove a separate exception or filter in another layer.
Why a site exception is different from turning off the blocker
A global disable switch changes protection across multiple sites; a site-specific exception confines the change to the affected site and the product where you made it. Where the product offers finer controls, a single-feature adjustment can be narrower still. The practical trade-off is scope: a full site allowlist is more likely to permit all resources that product was blocking on that site, while a feature-specific change affects only the selected behavior.
