Hardware ray tracing is required to run Gears of War: E-Day on PC. A graphics card without dedicated hardware ray-tracing support is listed as unsupported, so check that before considering resolution or frame-rate targets. The published tiers pair Minimum with 1080p at 60 fps, Recommended with 1440p at 60+ fps, and Ultra with 4K at 60+ fps; these are targets, not guarantees for every PC.

Gears of War: E-Day PC system requirements

The table below reproduces the launch specifications announced by Xbox Wire in September 2026 and transcribed by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026. The listed processor and graphics-card models are examples for each tier; they should not be treated as proof that every model performs identically.

Tier Preset and target Graphics card examples Processor examples VRAM System RAM Storage
Minimum Medium; 1080p, 60 fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 2060; AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060 AMD Ryzen 5 2600X; Intel Core i7-6850K or Core i5-10400 6 GB 12 GB 115 GB on an SSD
Recommended High; 1440p, 60+ fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti; AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT AMD Ryzen 5 5600; Intel Core i5-11600K 8 GB 16 GB 115 GB on an SSD
Ultra Ultra; 4K, 60+ fps NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti; AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D; Intel Core i7-14700K 12 GB 16 GB 115 GB on an SSD

Xbox Wire announced the final PC specifications on September 17, 2026, and noted that a new PC specifications image was added on September 28. PC Gamer’s October 1 transcription identifies DLSS, FSR, TSR, or XeSS as reconstruction or upscaling options in the performance rows. Xbox Wire’s launch specifications announcement is the primary release source; see also PC Gamer’s readable transcription of the requirements.

Ray tracing is the key compatibility check

The PC requirement note says a graphics card with hardware ray-tracing capability is required. In practical terms, a GPU without dedicated hardware ray-tracing support is unsupported, even if another part of the PC meets a listed tier. PC Gamer reproduces the requirement wording as: “A hardware ray tracing capable graphics card is required. Graphics cards without dedicated hardware ray tracing support are not support.”

The official technical overview describes E-Day as built on Unreal Engine 5 with DirectX 12 and hardware ray tracing. It also lists NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, including Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution, NVIDIA Reflex, AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, Intel XeSS, and Advanced Shader Delivery on compatible hardware. Feature availability depends on hardware compatibility; the list does not mean every feature works on every GPU or PC storefront. Xbox Wire’s PC technology overview provides that feature context.

How to check whether your PC meets a tier

Compare your complete system with the tier that matches your intended resolution and preset. A graphics-card match by itself does not establish that the whole PC meets the target.

  1. Confirm ray-tracing support. Identify your exact GPU model and verify it has dedicated hardware ray-tracing support. If it does not, the published requirement marks it unsupported.
  2. Choose a target tier. Use Minimum for the listed Medium, 1080p/60 fps target; Recommended for High, 1440p/60+ fps; or Ultra for Ultra, 4K/60+ fps.
  3. Compare the processor and memory. Check your CPU against the examples and confirm both system RAM and graphics-card VRAM meet the tier figures.
  4. Check SSD capacity. Make sure an SSD has at least 115 GB available for the listed requirement. The table specifies SSD storage, not a preferred interface or brand.
  5. Set expectations around reconstruction. DLSS, FSR, TSR, or XeSS may be available as upscaling or reconstruction options, but they do not guarantee a particular result on a particular system.

What the performance targets do—and do not—promise

The resolution and frame-rate figures are the targets associated with the published tiers, not a guarantee that every configuration using one of the example components will achieve identical performance. Actual outcomes can depend on the full system and compatible settings or features. The table does not establish that all listed GPUs are equivalent.

Independent testing can add context, but it is specific to the test setup. Tom’s Hardware reported clear CPU scaling in its tested pool and said the game’s built-in benchmark approximated its gameplay scene without matching it exactly. Treat that as an outlet-specific observation rather than a universal prediction for every PC. Tom’s Hardware’s PC performance report explains its testing context.

When an upgrade makes sense

If your GPU lacks hardware ray tracing

A GPU upgrade is necessary for compatibility under the published requirement. Choose a card based on the resolution and preset you want to target, then compare the rest of your system with that tier rather than buying solely by GPU name.

If you are short on SSD space

Free up SSD capacity or add a suitable SSD if your current drive cannot accommodate the listed 115 GB. The specification does not name a preferred brand, interface, or higher capacity target.

If several components miss your target

When the CPU, GPU, memory, and storage all fall short of the tier you want, compare the cost and practicality of upgrading several parts with replacing the system. The published requirements do not establish current prices, value rankings, or comparative tests across every listed graphics card.
