To save a Fortnite character look, select its cosmetics in the Locker, open the section menu, choose Save Character, then pick an empty slot, name it, and save. To change only your outfit, go to Locker > Character, select an outfit, and return to the Lobby.
Save a complete character look to a named slot
- Launch Fortnite and open the Locker.
- Select the cosmetic items you want included in the character look.
- Open the menu for the relevant section. Epic’s instructions show an ellipsis menu. Choose Save Character.
- Select an empty slot, enter a recognizable name, and save the loadout.
Epic uses “loadout” for the saved combination in its instructions. Saving a character look is distinct from saving other Locker categories.
Switch outfits without rebuilding a look
- From the Lobby, open Locker > Character.
- Select the outfit you want to use, then go back.
Epic says the Lobby avatar reflects the selected cosmetics. This outfit-selection route changes the current outfit; use a saved character slot when you want to switch to a complete saved look.
Know which Locker presets are separate
Fortnite’s Locker treats these as distinct preset sections, rather than one combined preset: Character, Emotes, Wraps, Lobby, Instruments, Cars, and Jam Tracks. Epic’s deletion guidance lists these sections separately. Epic Games Support: How do I delete a loadout in Fortnite?

Troubleshoot a cosmetic style that will not stay saved
Epic’s published support advice is to find the cosmetic in any affected presets, remove it, apply the style you want, and add the item back to the preset. The support page was not directly available when this advice was checked, so this is Epic’s published guidance, not a verified fix. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why empty preset spaces may disappear after deletion
Epic’s support result describes a version-specific change: update v34.10 introduced indexless loadouts, so deleting presets also deletes empty tiles. That behavior can make presets that were separated by blank spaces appear rearranged. This explanation is specific to the v34.10 behavior described by Epic; it does not establish how every current Locker arrangement behaves.
