To find out whether a specific Nintendo Switch game runs at 60 frames per second on Switch 2, check Nintendo’s compatibility listing, then verify the exact game edition and software update against the publisher’s information and reliable game-specific performance testing. Nintendo’s checker indicates playability and compatibility issues; it does not certify a game’s frame rate.

Check the game’s compatibility with Switch 2

  1. Open Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility checker and search for the exact game title or publisher.

  2. Read any compatibility notes. Nintendo warns that some original Switch games may have partial functionality issues or may not be supported.

  3. Do not treat a missing result as a definitive answer. Some physical-only or discontinued games may not appear unless testing found a compatibility issue.

A listing can help establish whether you can play a game on Switch 2, but it does not say whether that game renders at 60 fps. For title-specific compatibility information about third-party games, Nintendo advises contacting the publisher: “For specific compatibility information about games published by someone other than Nintendo, please contact the game’s publisher.” (Nintendo Support.)

Confirm the edition and update you want to play

Check whether you have the original Switch release or a Switch 2 Edition, and whether you have installed an upgrade pack. Nintendo offers Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs for select games, and the improvements vary by title. An upgrade should not be assumed to increase frame rate unless the publisher says so or testing verifies it. See Nintendo’s Switch 2 information and upgrade pack details.

Record the game’s software version or patch when checking performance claims. Results from a different update or edition may not describe the copy you are playing.

Check publisher notes and independent testing

Look for a specific publisher statement

Consult the publisher’s current page, support information, or update notes for the exact game. A useful statement names a frame-rate target or describes a performance change in a particular update. A general statement that a title is compatible is not evidence that it runs at 60 fps.

Prefer testing that identifies what was measured

Look for credible, title-specific performance testing that identifies the game build or patch and whether it tested handheld or docked play. Stronger evidence includes measured frame-rate results during representative gameplay and notes about dips or inconsistent frame pacing—not just a “playable” verdict.

Pokémon Pokopia - Nintendo Switch 2
  • Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
  • Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
  • Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
  • Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
  • Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
  • Target versus measured rate: A stated 60 fps target is not the same as a measured, sustained 60 fps.
  • Mode: Docked and handheld results may differ. Check which mode the source tested.
  • Consistency: A game may reach 60 fps in some scenes but dip elsewhere. Look beyond a peak figure or brief sample.
  • Version: Match the test to the edition and update you intend to play.

If no reliable source reports measured performance for that combination, the frame rate is not established. Say that compatibility is confirmed if the compatibility source supports it, but do not turn that into a 60 fps claim.

Why Switch 2’s output specifications don’t answer the question

Nintendo says Switch 2 can output up to 120 fps in docked mode when the TV and game support it; 4K output is capped at 60 fps. These are system output limits, not a promise that an individual game renders at either rate. A game must itself produce the frames, so the console’s maximum output specification cannot verify a particular title’s performance.
