Connect your modem or incoming Ethernet line to the Archer BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port, power on the modem and router, then configure the router with the TP-Link Tether app or a web browser. Before downloading firmware or choosing support material, check the hardware version printed on your router and use the TP-Link support page for your region and revision.
Before you begin: check the router and its contents
TP-Link says the Archer BE550 package includes the router, power adapter, Ethernet cable, and installation guides. The included cable is enough for basic setup; you may use another cable if needed. Hardware revisions and regional variants exist, so check the label on the router for its version before looking up downloads or revision-specific instructions. TP-Link’s Archer BE550 2.0 Setup Guide and Archer BE550 V2 Product and Installation Guide are examples for specific versions, not universal instructions for every BE550 sold worldwide.
How do I connect the Archer BE550 to my modem?
- Place the router. Set it near a power outlet and the modem or incoming Ethernet connection.
- Connect the incoming line. Run an Ethernet cable from the modem or Ethernet wall outlet to the BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port. Do not use a LAN port for the incoming connection.
- Restart the modem and power the router. Turn on the modem and let it restart. TP-Link’s BE550 V2 guide says to wait about two minutes. Connect the router’s power adapter and turn it on; wait until its LED is solid.
- Connect a setup device. You can connect a computer to a router LAN port with Ethernet, or join the default Wi-Fi network using the SSID and password printed on the router label.
The BE550 has 2.5 Gbps LAN ports for wired clients. The port labels distinguish those from the 2.5 Gbps WAN port used for the modem or incoming line.
Choose an app or browser for setup

TP-Link’s setup guide says to remain online while downloading Tether and logging in. Either way, follow the on-screen instructions for the internet connection and Wi-Fi settings. If setup asks for ISP connection details, use the settings supplied by your internet provider; the setup guide does not establish one provider’s settings as universal.

What to check if setup does not work
- No internet connection: Confirm the modem or incoming Ethernet line is connected to the BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port, not a LAN port. Check that the modem has restarted; the V2 guide advises allowing about two minutes.
- The app or setup page cannot find the router: Confirm the phone or computer is connected to the BE550’s default Wi-Fi or to a LAN port by Ethernet. Reopen Tether or try http://tplinkwifi.net and http://192.168.0.1.
- The internet setup requests details you do not have: Check with your ISP for the connection settings it requires. Requirements vary by provider; the cited TP-Link setup instructions do not give a universal provider-specific diagnosis.
Find the right support page before updating firmware
Use the hardware version printed on the router and select the corresponding TP-Link support page for the region where you bought it. TP-Link warns that installing incorrect firmware can damage the device and void its warranty. Its US Archer BE550 V1 support page advises getting firmware from the local TP-Link site for the device’s purchase location, not powering the router off during an update, and preferring a wired upload to reduce the chance of a wireless disconnect.
Firmware features can differ by hardware revision, region, and build. For example, TP-Link’s US V1 page lists EasyMesh support in AP mode as an addition in build 1.1.1 from 2025. That feature note should not be assumed to apply to every BE550 version or region. The setup video linked from the support page also uses a different Archer model as its example, so its model-specific illustrations are not BE550-specific.

Optional: expand coverage with EasyMesh
If you already have a compatible satellite device, the Archer BE550 user guide describes adding it through Tether: open More > EasyMesh, enable EasyMesh, tap Add Satellite Devices, choose the device type, and follow the app instructions. In a browser, the guide lists Advanced > EasyMesh. Check compatibility and firmware for both devices’ hardware revisions and regions before choosing a satellite; the guide does not identify a best satellite model.

TP-Link’s 2026 BE550 2.0 datasheet lists a maximum combined Wi-Fi rate of up to 9.3 Gbps. TP-Link conditions that aggregate figure on Wi-Fi 7 client devices supporting MLO and 6 GHz, connected across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands simultaneously. It is a manufacturer’s theoretical combined rate, not an expected speed for one device or a guarantee of internet throughput. See the Archer BE550 2.0 Datasheet.
