Samsung requires Samsung mobile devices for SmartTag setup, so installing SmartThings on an iPhone does not make the tag compatible.
Can you connect a Samsung SmartTag to an iPhone?
No. Samsung’s original SmartTag connection instructions say tags connect only to Samsung mobile devices and tablets. Samsung also states that iOS devices are not supported for SmartTag+ in its SmartTag and SmartTag+ guidance. The available documentation does not support using an iPhone to pair or normally track any of these generations.
Does SmartThings on iPhone work with SmartTag2?
Not for SmartTag2 setup and tracking. Samsung lists the SmartThings app for iPhone with iOS 17 or later, but its SmartTag2 product information separately says a compatible Samsung device is required to find the tag. App availability and tracker compatibility are different: having the app on an iPhone does not make the iPhone a supported SmartTag phone.
What phones and requirements do the SmartTag generations use?

The Android 8.0 requirement is from Samsung’s original SmartTag instructions; the Android 9.0 requirement is from a regional SmartTag2 guide, not a universal requirement for every model or market. Check Samsung support for the product and region you are buying.

How does SmartTag2 find an item outside Bluetooth range?
Samsung describes SmartTag2 as having Bluetooth range of up to 120 metres under its stated conditions. That is a maximum, not guaranteed real-world performance; obstacles can reduce accuracy. When the tag is out of Bluetooth range, Samsung says its Galaxy Find network can help locate it. This relies on participating Galaxy devices, not an iPhone-based network, and Samsung’s cited description does not present the tag as GPS-enabled.
How do you set up a Samsung SmartTag with an iPhone?
You cannot complete supported SmartTag pairing and tracking with an iPhone. If your only phone is an iPhone, SmartThings availability in the App Store does not change that compatibility limitation. Setup requires a supported Samsung phone and, for SmartTag2, the Samsung account and SmartThings Find registration described above.
