Amazon Echo Show, Google Nest Hub, and Amazon Echo Hub suit different priorities; there is no universal best choice established by the available product information.
1. Start with your smart-home platform
Before comparing screen sizes, list the voice assistant, home app, connected devices, and routines your household already relies on. Choose a display that supports the functions you need with those exact devices. A feature advertised for one model should not be assumed to exist across its whole brand lineup.
For an Alexa-oriented home, Amazon’s Echo buying guide covers Echo Show displays and describes Echo Hub as a separate smart-home-control option. For a Google Home household, Google’s Nest Hub comparison describes compatible-device control through Google Home.
What Matter does—and does not—solve
Matter is intended to make setup and cross-platform compatibility easier. Google says Matter-enabled devices communicate locally over an existing home network for those commands, and lists Matter-certified apps including Google Home, Apple Home, and Amazon Alexa. That does not mean every device category, feature, or setup flow works identically across platforms. Confirm that the exact display and device support the functions you want.

A Matter hub may be required for adding devices, local control, and remote control. Google lists the Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max as Matter hubs supporting Wi-Fi and Thread. Google also says IPv6 must be enabled on the home wireless network for Matter to work properly. Check your router’s IPv6 support and the current compatibility information for the devices you plan to connect. See Google’s guidance on preparing a smart home for Matter.
2. Match the display to its room and job
Think about where the screen will sit or mount, how far away you will view it, and what you want to do on it. A compact display for a bedside table is a different purchase from a large household calendar or a wall-mounted control panel.
| Model | Screen size | Notable fit described by the vendor |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Echo Show 5 | 5.5 inches | Bedside table or office desk |
| Amazon Echo Show 8 | 8 inches | Compact general-purpose screen with a built-in smart-home hub |
| Amazon Echo Show 10 | 10.1 inches | Screen designed to move with the user |
| Amazon Echo Show 15 | 15.6 inches | Wall-mounted household organization and entertainment |
| Amazon Echo Show 21 | 21 inches | Large wall-mountable household screen |
| Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) | 7 inches | Compact Google Home display |
| Google Nest Hub Max | 10 inches | Larger Google Home display with camera |
Screen size is only one part of placement. Check the model’s footprint, mounting method, viewing distance, and what hardware is included. Amazon says the Echo Show 15 and Show 21 include wall-mounting equipment and a remote in the cited guide; verify the current package for your region before purchase.
Rank #2
- Alexa can show you more - Echo Show 5 includes a 5.5” display so you can see news and weather at a glance, make video calls, view compatible cameras, stream music and shows, and more.
- Small size, bigger sound – Stream your favorite music, shows, podcasts, and more from providers like Amazon Music, Spotify, and Prime Video—now with deeper bass and clearer vocals. Includes a 5.5" display so you can view shows, song titles, and more at a glance.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart devices like lights and thermostats, even while you're away.
- See more with the built-in camera – Check in on your family, pets, and more using the built-in camera. Drop in on your home when you're out or view the front door from your Echo Show 5 with compatible video doorbells.
- See your photos on display – When not in use, set the background to a rotating slideshow of your favorite photos. Invite family and friends to share photos to your Echo Show. Prime members also get unlimited cloud photo storage.
3. Decide whether you want a camera
A camera can be useful for video calls and, on some models, home monitoring. If those functions are not useful to your household, a model without a listed camera may better suit your preferences. Compare the actual camera features rather than assuming all smart displays offer the same calling experience.

- Echo Show 5: Amazon lists a 2 MP camera.
- Echo Show 10: Amazon lists a 13 MP auto-framing camera.
- Nest Hub (2nd gen): Google’s comparison does not list a camera for this model.
- Nest Hub Max: Google lists a built-in camera for video calls and home monitoring.
These are manufacturer-listed specifications and features, not independent evaluations of image quality or call performance.
4. Check the smart-home protocols on the exact model
Protocol support can determine whether a display can directly connect to devices you own or intend to buy. The cited vendor information identifies these examples:
Rank #3
- New size, more viewing area: The 11“ smart display features a vibrant Full-HD touchscreen with 60% more viewing area versus Echo Show 8 (2025 release), built-in smart home hub, AZ3 Pro chip for powerful performance, and Omnisense technology for highly personalized experiences.
- Content looks and sounds incredible: Watch shows on Prime Video, Netflix, and more on the vibrant Full-HD 11" screen and enjoy room-filling spatial audio, crisper vocals, wider sound stage, and up to 2x bass versus Echo Show 8 (2023 release). With Alexa+, find the name of that song you love and discover new shows based on your preferences.
- Your everyday assistant: The 11" display makes it easy to see recipes and calendars at a glance, find meal inspo, and manage your shopping lists. With Alexa+, find recipes based on foods you love, make reservations, order groceries, and more.
- Simple Smart Home control: Pair and control thousands of devices that work with Alexa without needing a separate smart home hub. Easily view your camera feeds. Manage lights, thermostats, and more using the display or your voice. With Omnisense technology, you can activate routines via temperature, presence, or visual ID detection.
- Crystal-clear video calls: Video calls feel natural on the vibrant 11" screen with a centered, auto-framing camera, 3.3x zoom, and noise reduction technology. Use live view to check in on your family, pets, and more while you're away.
- Echo Show 8: Amazon lists a built-in hub compatible with Zigbee, Matter, and Thread devices. Do not generalize this combination to every Echo Show.
- Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max: Google lists both as Matter hubs supporting Wi-Fi and Thread.
- Echo Show 15 and Echo Show 21: Amazon describes integrated smart-home hubs, but the cited guide does not establish that they support the same protocol combination listed for Echo Show 8.
Before buying, check compatibility for the specific product, protocol, device type, and feature you need. A shared standard is helpful, but it does not guarantee that every function is available on every platform or in every country.
5. Compare entertainment and audio against your actual use
If you plan to watch video, listen to music, or use the display for calls, check that the services you use are available on the specific model. Google’s comparison lists YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Google Photos, YouTube Music, Spotify, speaker groups, and hands-free Meet calls for both Nest Hub models. Amazon’s guide describes Fire TV on Echo Show 15 and Echo Show 21, with entertainment features on other Show models as well.
For audio, Amazon lists two 2-inch stereo speakers and a passive bass radiator on Echo Show 8. Google lists a 1.7-inch full-range driver on Nest Hub (2nd gen); Nest Hub Max has two 0.7-inch tweeters and a 3-inch woofer. These specifications do not establish which display sounds better in a room.

6. Treat privacy controls as a model-and-account check
Decide whether camera-based calls or monitoring fit your household, then inspect the actual device and account settings for camera, microphone, and voice-history controls. Amazon describes a microphone-off button and voice-recording deletion controls for Echo Hub on its Echo Hub feature page. Google describes its in-home privacy commitments for listed devices and services when used with Google Accounts at Google Nest privacy information. Vendor descriptions are not an independent comparison of security or privacy.

Choose an Echo Show for an Alexa-centered home
Pick the specific size and feature set that fits the room. Echo Show 8 is a candidate if you want an 8-inch display and the Zigbee, Matter, and Thread hub capabilities Amazon lists for that model. Echo Show 15 or 21 may fit a wall-mounted organization and entertainment role; compare their large screens, mounting needs, and Fire TV features.
Choose a Nest Hub for a Google Home-centered home
The 7-inch Nest Hub (2nd gen) is the smaller listed option and has no camera listed in Google’s comparison. Nest Hub Max has a 10-inch screen and a camera for calls and home monitoring. Both are listed by Google as Matter hubs supporting Wi-Fi and Thread.

Consider Echo Hub when control is the main purpose
Amazon positions Echo Hub as a dashboard-first smart-home controller rather than simply a general media display. Its feature page describes room- or function-based controls, routines, live camera feeds—including up to four camera streams at once—audio control, and photo display. The buying guide describes wall-mounting options, built-in hub connectivity, and an optional tabletop stand. Check current software status, included hardware, and compatibility before deciding; Amazon said a redesigned interface was beginning to roll out as a free software update when its feature page was accessed.
8. Verify price, stock, and local compatibility before buying
Current prices, availability, warranty terms, and market-specific compatibility are not established here. Confirm them with the seller and manufacturer for your country and the exact generation you are considering. Product specifications and support lists can change, so use current listings rather than relying on an older model description.
The manufacturer pages establish product specifications and intended uses, but do not provide a comparative hands-on result for screen quality, sound quality, responsiveness, reliability, or privacy. Choose based on documented features that match your needs rather than treating any one model as a proven overall winner.
