Fortnite Crew is a recurring subscription, V-Bucks are Fortnite’s spendable in-game currency, and Item Shop bundles are direct purchases of selected cosmetics. They are not interchangeable: Crew combines pass access and recurring benefits, V-Bucks let you choose eligible Shop items, and a bundle buys the cosmetics it contains. Which makes sense depends on what you want, how often you play, and whether you want an ongoing subscription.
At a glance: subscription, currency, or cosmetics
| Option | What you get | How you get it | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Crew | Access to premium rewards from listed Fortnite passes while subscribed, a monthly Crew Pack, 800 V-Bucks, and Rocket Pass Premium in Rocket League, according to Epic’s current Crew page. | Recurring subscription that renews automatically until canceled. | A package of benefits, rather than a single cosmetic or a currency-only purchase. Benefits and monthly content may change. |
| V-Bucks | A balance of Fortnite’s in-game currency for eligible Shop purchases. | Purchased or earned through eligible game progression and rewards. | Currency gives you a choice among eligible items; it does not itself grant pass progression or a particular cosmetic. |
| Item Shop bundle | The specific cosmetics included in that bundle. | Direct Shop purchase, using the payment method and price shown in the game. | You buy a defined selection of cosmetics, not a subscription or general-purpose balance. |
Epic’s current pages list Crew’s monthly grant as 800 V-Bucks and the current Battle Pass at 800 V-Bucks; the pass also says players can unlock up to 800 V-Bucks by earning XP. Those amounts are specific to the current pages and pass, not a promise that future seasons or Crew benefits will use the same figures. Epic’s Fortnite Crew page and current Battle Pass page are the best places to check what is offered now.

What Fortnite Crew includes
Epic’s current Crew page lists access to the Battle Pass, OG Pass, LEGO Pass, and Music Pass; one monthly Crew Pack; 800 V-Bucks; and Rocket Pass Premium in Rocket League. The combination is broader than a V-Bucks purchase or a single Shop bundle, but its value depends on whether you want those benefits and will use them during your subscription.
Crew Pack cosmetics
Epic describes the Crew Pack as a bundle exclusive to Fortnite Crew subscribers and says it is yours to keep. The contents change over time. The page reviewed for this article displayed the August 2026 pack—Mortuus X Outfit, Soul Box Back Bling, and Spacebound Carvers Pickaxe—so those items should not be assumed to be the current pack at another date. Check the Crew page before subscribing if a particular pack is the reason you are considering it.

Pass access and progression
While your subscription is active, Crew gives access to claim premium rewards from the listed passes as you progress. Access is not the same as receiving every reward immediately: you still progress through the pass to claim its premium rewards. Crew Pack cosmetics have a distinct ownership description: Epic says the pack is yours to keep.
If you prefer not to subscribe, Epic’s current Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass page lists the pass for 800 V-Bucks or as part of Fortnite Crew. It also says players can unlock up to 800 V-Bucks in that pass by earning XP. That is a season-specific price and maximum, and earning pass V-Bucks is separate from Crew’s other benefits.

How V-Bucks differ from buying a bundle
V-Bucks are a balance to spend on eligible Shop items, including cosmetics such as Outfits and Emotes. They do not select the item for you; you decide what to buy from what is available in the Shop. A bundle, by contrast, is a specific set of items offered for direct purchase. Check its contents and the in-game price before confirming, because the value lies in the particular cosmetics included rather than in a reusable currency balance.
Neither buying V-Bucks nor buying a cosmetic bundle substitutes for pass progression. If your main goal is premium rewards from a pass, compare the current standalone pass option with Crew’s access and consider whether you will progress enough to claim rewards. If you only want one available cosmetic set, a direct bundle purchase avoids subscribing for benefits you may not need.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Subscription timing, cancellation, and platform rules
Fortnite Crew renews automatically until canceled. Epic’s terms say you must cancel before the next billing date to stop the next charge. The subscription is associated with the platform where it was purchased until canceled; it is not transferable between platforms. Epic says items can be accessed across platforms, but V-Bucks may not be redeemable on other platforms. Features and availability can vary by platform and region, and third-party platform subscriptions may have additional terms. Read Epic’s Fortnite Crew Subscription Terms and check the checkout details for your account and region before subscribing.
- Open the Fortnite Crew offer in Fortnite or on Epic’s official page and check the benefit list and current Crew Pack.
- Confirm the subscription price, billing date, platform, and regional terms shown for your purchase.
- If you subscribe, note where you purchased it and the next billing date. Cancel through the relevant platform before that date if you do not want another renewal.
What happens to pass items later?
Epic says Battle Pass items may become available for purchase in the Fortnite Shop at least 18 months after the pass expires. “May” matters: this is a possibility, not a guarantee that every item will return. Availability and included alternate styles can vary. Do not subscribe or buy a pass on the assumption that a particular past reward is certain to appear in the Shop later.

The current Battle Pass page reviewed lists Chapter 7 Season 4 and an end date of November 1, 2026 Eastern Time. Season details change; use the live page for the pass’s current price, rewards, and end date rather than relying on that date for a later season.

- Choose Crew if you want its combination of pass access, monthly Crew Pack, V-Bucks, and Rocket League benefit—and are comfortable managing a recurring subscription.
- Choose V-Bucks if you want a currency balance to spend on eligible Shop items and prefer to decide what to buy.
- Choose a bundle if you want the specific cosmetics in an available set without subscribing for other benefits.
- Consider the standalone Battle Pass if premium rewards from that pass are your main goal and you do not want the broader Crew package. The current pass page lists its price and included progression details.
Why older Fortnite Crew prices can be misleading
Epic’s November 20, 2024 announcement described 1,000 monthly V-Bucks for Crew and a planned Battle Pass price change from 950 to 1,000 V-Bucks. Those are historical figures, not the amounts displayed on the current Crew and Battle Pass pages reviewed here, which list 800 for both. For a purchase decision, use the live offer and checkout display rather than older articles or announcements. Epic’s 2024 announcement provides the historical context.
