Before installing One UI, check the Galaxy’s software-update controls, confirm it has enough battery and free storage, and note its current software version. On many devices, start at Settings > Software update > Download and install. Exact labels and options depend on the model, software version, region, and carrier.
Where do you check for a Galaxy update?
- Open Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install to check manually. Some models or software versions instead use a label such as System updates, or show a separate Check for system updates or Check for software updates step. Samsung’s update instructions for Galaxy devices and US update guide describe the process, but the screens are not universal.
- Review the update information shown before choosing to download or install it.
Should you download automatically or schedule installation?
Under Settings > Software update, look for Auto download over Wi-Fi if you want the phone to download updates automatically while connected to Wi-Fi. Samsung’s US guide says the switch can enable or disable this option. A Schedule or Schedule install control may also be available to choose an installation time. Availability and wording differ by device and software version.

What should you check before installing?
- Battery: Make sure the charge is adequate and follow any instruction on the phone’s update prompt. Samsung regional guidance gives different thresholds: Samsung Gulf’s instructions updated September 3, 2026, say at least 20%, while a Samsung Philippines article from 2022 says above 50%. - Storage: Check that the device has enough free space for the update. If it does not, the phone may ask you to make room before proceeding.
- Connection: Use a stable connection. Samsung says updates can use Wi-Fi or mobile data; Wi-Fi is a practical choice for a large download if you want to avoid using mobile data. Samsung Gulf update guidance
How do you check your current One UI version?
Open Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information. This screen shows the One UI version, Android version, and build number. Note them before contacting support or following instructions that apply only to a particular software version. Samsung’s software information instructions cover this path.
Why isn’t the One UI update showing up yet?
Samsung releases updates according to factors that can include the device model, country or region, carrier, and rollout stage. A different Galaxy may receive an update first even when both phones are working normally. Try checking manually again later, or ask Samsung support or your carrier about availability for your exact model and market. Samsung’s One UI 8 schedule information warns that eligible models and schedules can change and that availability depends on model, country, and network operator; its schedule should not be assumed to apply everywhere.

Do app auto-updates control One UI updates?
No. One UI is a system update managed through the device’s software-update settings. Play Store and Galaxy Store app updates have their own preferences. In the Play Store, the path is Profile > Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps, where options include Wi-Fi-only updating.
