When and where to vote in 2026
The first round of Brazil’s 2026 general election is scheduled for 4 October 2026. A second round, where required, is scheduled for 25 October 2026. Polling hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brasília time; check the local-time difference for your location. The Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) expects more than 155 million voters nationwide. These dates, hours and figures apply to the 2026 election. TSE 2026 voting guidance
Go to the polling section assigned to you. Election officials verify your identity before you enter the booth. If you need to confirm your assigned location, consult the TSE’s official voter services.
What identification to bring
Present an official photo ID to election officials. The TSE lists identity documents, a passport, driver’s license, physical work card, legally recognized professional card, social identity document, or e-Título when it displays your photo as acceptable options. A paper voter registration card by itself is not a substitute for official photo identification. Birth and marriage certificates, as well as the digital work card, are not accepted as identification. - Using e-Título: make sure it shows your photo. If it does not, bring another accepted official photo ID.
- Using a separate document: bring an accepted physical photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.
Can you vote without biometrics?
Yes. Not having biometrics registered does not by itself prevent you from voting. The TSE’s 2026 regulation says that, when no biometric record exists, the voter is enabled to vote by entering the year of birth as reported by the voter. Poll workers can also follow the applicable identity-check procedure if a fingerprint is not recognized or reading it is difficult. Follow their instructions and do not assume a fingerprint-reading problem means you cannot vote. TSE Resolution No. 23.759/2026, article 20 TSE biometric guidance
What to do before entering the booth
- Show your photo ID. Present your accepted identification to the election officials at your polling section and follow their identity-verification instructions.
- Complete any biometric check. If asked, place your thumb or index finger on the reader. If you have no registered biometric or the scan does not work, tell the official and follow the alternative procedure.
- Leave electronics with election officials. Phones, cameras, camcorders and other electronic devices that could compromise vote secrecy are prohibited inside the booth. Leave them at the designated place with poll workers before entering. You may take a printed paper note of candidate numbers into the booth. TSE 2026 voting guidance TSE Resolution No. 23.759/2026
