What happened to PUBG: Black Budget?
In a September 30, 2026 announcement, the PUBG: Black Budget team said development had ended. The team wrote that its review found the project’s current direction would not allow it to deliver “an experience players could enjoy over the long term.” Read the team’s announcement on Steam.
The Black Budget Steam listing still marks the game unavailable and gives its release date as “To be announced.” That listing’s gameplay details describe what the project had planned; they do not establish that those features were completed or will launch.
How did the two extraction-shooter concepts differ?
Black Budget’s advertised hook was a mysterious island caught in a time loop, with a supernatural Anomaly shrinking the playable area. Its listing proposed exploration and PvPvE encounters—fights involving both other players and environmental enemies—alongside extraction. Tarkov’s Steam description instead presents a raid-centered loop: prepare, encounter PMC players and Scavs, and try to extract with loot.

If you want an extraction shooter to play, Tarkov is the only available option between these two according to their Steam listings. If Black Budget’s proposed time-loop island, shrinking play area, or three-player squad format appealed to you, those remain features of its announced concept—not reasons to expect a future launch.
