There is no officially established “best” class or weapon for Chaos Siege in Space Marine 2. The most reliable approach is to build a squad around complementary jobs: control enemy groups, pressure dangerous targets, cover objectives, and keep the team safe when someone has to move away. Treat that as a planning framework—not a developer ranking or a proven optimal lineup.
Patch 15 added Chaos Siege on 1 October 2026. You play as Chaos Space Marines against Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines across two new Siege sectors on Avarax. The update is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, according to Focus Entertainment’s Anniversary Update announcement.
What makes a strong Chaos Siege squad?
Think in terms of coverage rather than a fixed class tier list. The official Patch 15 announcement and notes do not publish class win rates, weapon rankings, or a best three-player composition. The following roles are strategic recommendations based on the demands of a wave-defense mode, not claims of measured class performance.
- Wave control: Bring tools that can manage groups so ordinary enemies do not overwhelm the formation.
- Elite pressure: Make sure the squad can focus dangerous or durable targets rather than spreading damage across everything.
- Objective response: Decide who can move away to handle an objective and who will hold the team together during that split.
- Range coverage: Avoid having every player depend on the same engagement distance. The mode features several enemy factions, but official sources do not establish faction-specific class or weapon counters.
- Survival and resource decisions: Coordinate purchases and support choices if the Chaos variant’s current UI offers them; confirm the available options in-game rather than assuming the original Siege economy carries over unchanged.
A useful pre-match question is: “If one player leaves the group, can the other two still control a wave and protect one another?” If the answer is no, adjust roles or agree on when the group will move together.

How to assign team roles
Group control and formation stability
One player should prioritize keeping enemies from disrupting the squad’s position. This role matters most when teammates are focused on a target or handling an objective. Choose a class and weapons that your group can use to contain pressure, then avoid having all players chase separate enemies at once.
Priority-target pressure
Agree on who will focus the most dangerous or durable enemy when one appears. Concentrated attention is easier to coordinate than three players independently switching targets. The official material does not identify a class as the best elite or boss killer in Chaos Siege, so make the choice based on the abilities and weapons your squad is comfortable using.

Objective runner and cover
When an objective calls for a player to leave the main formation, assign that player in advance and have the remaining teammates provide cover. The runner should be able to contribute while separated; the covering players should keep enough control to avoid turning the split into a rescue mission. If the objective is unclear or the team is under heavy pressure, regroup before committing.
Resource caller
If Chaos Siege presents a shop or other spendable resources, have one teammate coordinate purchases. Discuss whether the squad needs survival, offensive help, or a reinforcement before spending, and avoid duplicating an option without a reason. This is conditional advice: the original Siege had shop and reinforcement systems, but Patch 15’s Chaos Siege announcement does not confirm that every legacy mechanic is unchanged.

Which classes are best?
No class can be called the official best for Chaos Siege on the evidence available. Instead, select classes that let your actual squad cover the roles above. Before locking in, check the current in-game class abilities and the Chaos Siege roster; the official update sources do not provide a class-by-class Chaos Siege matchup guide.
- For a group-control gap: favor a class and loadout your team can use to keep multiple enemies from pressuring the formation.
- For a priority-target gap: choose a player who can reliably focus a dangerous target while the rest of the team maintains control.
- For a mobility or objective gap: assign the player best able to handle the objective without leaving the team unable to defend itself.
- For a protection or support gap: use a class whose current abilities help teammates stay effective under pressure.
These are jobs to fill, not a ranking of class capabilities. The official sources reviewed do not compare classes on crowd control, elite damage, mobility, protection, or performance while separated.

Which weapons should you bring?
Choose for the missing squad job
Build around what the team lacks. If group control is weak, favor options suited to managing multiple enemies; if the team struggles to focus priority targets, pick weapons and abilities that let players concentrate on one threat. Include a mix of close- and longer-range contributions where your class choices allow it. These are composition principles, not verified weapon-performance claims: there is no official Chaos Siege weapon ranking or comparative damage data in the Patch 15 materials.
One-Handed Thunder Hammer
The One-Handed Thunder Hammer is a flexible option, not an established universal best. Focus Entertainment says Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine can use it. Its attacks shift between single-target and area use; players build charges and spend them for stronger attacks. Those features make it worth considering when a squad wants one weapon that can address different target situations, but the publisher does not claim it out-damages alternatives or is optimal for Chaos Siege. See the official Patch 15 announcement for the description.

Which legacy Siege mechanics should you account for?
The original Siege mode is useful context, but its mechanics should not automatically be treated as confirmed Chaos Siege rules. In the original mode, the documented loop included endless waves, three rotating sectors, side objectives, a shop and reinforcements, bosses every fifth wave, and increased difficulty after wave 15. Those features explain why objective coverage, resource coordination, and late-wave survival are sensible planning concerns. Check the Chaos Siege UI and current patch notes to see which mechanics apply there.
Siege has also changed over time. Siege 2.0 added shop items, bosses, further objectives, Blessings, and Atonements; Patch 14 adjusted wave and side-objective resource rewards, high-wave enemy resistance caps, and other details. For the original-mode history, see Patch Notes 8.0, Patch Notes 13.0, and Patch Notes 14.0. These historical systems and balance details are not a guarantee that Chaos Siege works identically.
How Patch 15 affects build advice
Build advice involving Blessings and Atonements is version-sensitive. Patch 15 temporarily removed Cursed Relic from the Atonement pool and says Patch 16 will revisit Blessings and Atonements. Check the live options before planning around a particular effect; a specific “best blessing” should not be treated as settled. Refer to the official Patch Notes 15.0 for the current update details.
Because the live balance can change, base a squad plan on the roles you need and the options currently available in your game—not on an assumed timeless tier list.
