Before you start, check that the number is eligible, your phone is compatible and unlocked, and you have the old carrier’s account number, port-out PIN, and service ZIP code. Keep your old line active until Visible confirms the transfer is complete.
Before you start: check your number, phone, and account details
- Check number portability: Use Visible’s Portability Checker. It may indicate whether a phone is paid off and unlocked, but it does not detect restrictions or freezes on your old carrier account.
- Check phone compatibility: Enter your device’s IMEI in Visible’s Compatibility Checker. If the phone is carrier-locked, contact your current carrier to ask about unlocking it.
- Get the correct transfer details: Ask your old carrier for the account number and port-out PIN. Confirm the service ZIP code and any other information it requires. The account number is not necessarily the phone number. Visible’s carrier requirements list is a starting point; requirements can change, so verify details with your old carrier if they do not work.
Choose when to transfer your number

Visible’s guide, How to transfer or port your number into Visible, explains the port-in flow. Choose the signup path that suits your setup; neither requires you to cancel your old account yourself.
What to expect with eSIM and physical SIM activation
The activation order depends on your phone, SIM type, and whether you bring your own device or buy a new one. Visible’s iPhone activation instructions and Android activation instructions distinguish those paths. Follow the instructions for your exact setup rather than assuming every eSIM or physical SIM transfer works in the same order.
Porting a number in from another carrier is different from moving an existing Visible line to another phone. For current Visible members, the SIM process is described separately in Switching is SIMple.

Track the request and keep your old service active
Visible says a port may take 1 hour to 10 days, depending on the previous carrier; this is Visible’s estimate in its guide last updated July 30, 2025, not a guaranteed completion window. Check the Port Tracker for progress, refresh the status, and respond if it asks you to correct information. Visible says it may allow up to 10 correction attempts. An incomplete request is automatically canceled after 30 days.
Keep the old carrier line active while the transfer is pending. Do not cancel the old account yourself: Visible says it closes when the number transfer is complete.

If the transfer stalls or fails
- Open Visible’s Port Tracker and check whether it shows a status or asks for corrected details.
- Compare the submitted information with your old carrier’s records: phone number, account number, port-out PIN, service ZIP code, account names, and any other carrier-specific fields.
- Submit corrected information through the path Visible provides. If the self-service process does not resolve the issue, contact Visible Care.
- Keep the old line active while Visible works on the request. If it remains incomplete for 30 days, Visible says it will be canceled automatically.
Confirm the number works on Visible
Wait for Visible’s completion notification, then place an outgoing call and send a text using the transferred number. If either fails, follow the activation steps for your device and SIM type in Visible’s iPhone or Android instructions.
