How to avoid losing your gear during Gray Zone Warfare smuggling runs: as of October 4, 2026, there is no confirmed run-specific procedure to follow. MADFINGER Games has announced smuggling activities for Update 0.5: Rogue Ops, with a Supporter Preview scheduled for October 19 and launch scheduled for October 22, 2026. Its teaser does not explain what happens to gear on death, failed extraction, or successful extraction. Until those rules are documented in the preview or launch build, treat any precise gear-loss advice as unverified.
What is confirmed about smuggling runs
MADFINGER Games says Rogue Ops will let players become a rogue PMC and take part in new smuggling activities. The announcement describes a new gameplay loop centered on crafting and building a Hideout, but it does not provide a smuggling-run manual or explain its loss and recovery mechanics. The announced schedule is a Supporter Preview on October 19, 2026, followed by the Rogue Ops launch on October 22, 2026. Read the Update 0.5 teaser.

That means there is no source-backed answer yet to the common question, “What happens to your gear if you die during a smuggling run?” The same uncertainty applies to a coma, disconnect, failed extraction, successful extraction, and whether a fallen character’s gear can be reclaimed.
What to verify before risking valuable gear
When the Supporter Preview or launch build is available, check the in-game rules and current official notes before carrying equipment you cannot afford to lose. Verify each mechanic in that build rather than assuming ordinary Warfare rules carry over.
#1 Best Overall
- New Pointstreak system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives
- Weapons proficiency system that allows you to customize your favorite weapons, making them more effiecent in any map or mode
- Online/offline 2-player co-op Special Ops Survival mode that earns you experience through 16 frantic objective-based missions

- Integration with 'Call of Duty: Elite,' an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Loadout: Does smuggling use your regular character and locker gear, or a separate character or loadout?
- Death and incapacitation: What is retained after death or coma, and can you return to recover items from your body?
- Extraction: What conditions count as a successful extraction? What causes a failure, and what happens to carried gear in each case?
- Disconnects: Does leaving or losing connection during a run count as a failed run, and is any gear restored?
- Tracking tags: Do tags work in smuggling activities, and, if so, how long can they locate tagged equipment?
- Durability: Do the established weapon durability rules apply to the new activity?
What existing tracking tags can—and cannot—tell you
An official Update 0.3 changelog describes tracking tags bought from vendors and attached to weapons or gear. Tagged items can be located on the map; if another player carries looted tagged equipment, that player can be tracked until the tag expires. This is a documented general-game recovery feature, not confirmation that tags function during Rogue Ops smuggling runs. See the Update 0.3 changelog.
The same changelog says death and coma no longer cause durability loss, while use and, more substantially, bullet hits affect weapon durability. Those are Update 0.3 rules; do not assume they remain unchanged or apply to smuggling without confirmation in the relevant build.
Do not confuse the soft wipe with an individual run
MADFINGER Games announced a soft wipe alongside Update 0.5. Players coming from Update 0.4 keep rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels, and completed tasks, while their locker and money are wiped. That is a progression reset, not an explanation of what happens to gear during any one smuggling run. The Update 0.5 announcement distinguishes the wipe from the new activity’s still-unpublished run rules.

Update 0.4 was described as bringing a revamped loot system and redesigned tactical map. Guides based on older routes or loot conditions may therefore be out of date, and the Update 0.5 teaser itself offers no smuggling-specific route advice. Check that any route guidance matches the current build before relying on it. Read the Update 0.4 announcement.
