If a game looks blurry, flickers, or shows ghosting after you enable Enhance PSSR Image Quality, turn that optional setting off and compare the same scene again. This is the quickest way to check whether the enhanced setting is involved, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every game. PSSR is a PS5 Pro feature, and Sony says results vary by title.

First, confirm you are changing the right setting

The setting in question is Enhance PSSR Image Quality on PS5 Pro. It applies to PS5 Pro games that support PSSR; it is not the separate Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games compatibility setting. Sony introduced broad support for upgraded PSSR in a system software update announced on March 16, 2026, and says the enhanced option can be enabled for existing supported games. Sony’s announcement cautions that results vary by title.

Turn off enhanced PSSR and compare the same scene

  1. On your PS5 Pro, open Settings and locate Screen and Video.
  2. Open Video Output and select Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Turn the option off. Menu labels or placement may vary with system software.
  3. Return to the affected game and revisit the same scene. Compare the same fine-detail areas and camera movement that showed the blur, flicker, or afterimage.

Sony’s Sid Shuman says, “If it results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time.” That is guidance to disable the optional enhanced setting; it is not a promise that doing so will resolve every visual problem. If the symptom disappears, the comparison suggests it is linked to the enhanced setting in that game—not that all PSSR titles behave the same way.

Check whether the issue is limited to one game

Enhanced PSSR support and results are title-specific. Install available updates for the affected game, then check its publisher’s patch notes or PlayStation’s current information on supported titles. Sony’s PS5 Pro page lists supported games, but the list can change, so check it for the current status rather than treating any list as permanent.

If practical, compare the same kind of detail or motion in another supported game. An artifact limited to one title points toward a title-specific interaction; a similar problem across games does not by itself identify the cause. Sony has not published a universal PSSR-artifact diagnosis or repair, and the available guidance does not establish why a particular game looks blurry.

Rule out a general HDMI or display problem

If the issue remains with enhanced PSSR off, or appears outside the affected game, check the display path. These are PlayStation’s general picture troubleshooting steps, not specific treatments for PSSR artifacts. PlayStation’s picture and sound troubleshooting recommends checking the connection and display:

  • Connect the console directly to the TV or display, bypassing an AV receiver, HDMI switch, or capture device.
  • Confirm the display is set to the HDMI input used by the console.
  • Check for and install available display firmware updates.
  • Try another HDMI port, then try a different HDMI cable if needed.

Trying another cable is a diagnostic check for general picture trouble, not evidence that a cable causes PSSR reconstruction blur. No particular cable brand or grade is established as a fix for this symptom.

When the problem persists

If the visuals remain unexpected after comparing the setting, updating the game, and checking the display connection, contact PlayStation Support or the game’s publisher. Describe the PS5 Pro setting state, the game and scene, and whether the effect changes when the option is off. Sony’s support material does not provide a dedicated PSSR-artifact diagnostic, so avoid treating a database rebuild, factory reset, or hardware repair as a proven PSSR fix.
