Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has both free updates and paid DLC. Free-update content is separate from paid collaboration packs and the Season Pass; what you can buy or claim depends on your platform, edition, and region. You’ll also need the latest game version for online modes and DLC access, and an internet connection may be required to claim add-ons.

Is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds DLC free?

Some post-launch content is free, but not all of it. SEGA’s June 9, 2025 announcement distinguished free game updates from the paid Season Pass. It named Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Ichiban Kasuga as racers planned for free updates, while describing a six-wave Season Pass for crossover content, beginning with Minecraft. SEGA noted that the announced content and dates could change, so treat that as the original plan rather than a guarantee of the final schedule. SEGA’s announcement

Free updates and free downloads are not necessarily the same thing. A game update delivers changes or content through the game’s update process; a separately listed free item may need to be claimed from a platform store. For example, Nintendo’s US catalog lists the Blue Star Extreme Gear as a free download. That listing establishes availability in the Nintendo Switch store, not on every platform. What does the Season Pass include, and what can you buy separately?

The Season Pass is a paid route to planned crossover DLC, while individual packs are listed separately in Nintendo’s US store. Nintendo’s catalog snapshot lists these prices; they are US Nintendo eShop listings, not a universal price list, and storefront prices can change.

Nintendo says the base game is required and sold separately. To decide between the pass and individual packs, check what you already own, which waves are currently available, and the prices in your own region. The cited prices alone do not establish that the pass is a better deal for every player. Nintendo’s US DLC catalog

Which platforms and editions have DLC?

SEGA’s June 9, 2025 release announcement named PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic Games for the original release, with Nintendo Switch 2 planned for later. That is a dated announcement, not a live inventory of every platform’s current store. Check the store for the platform and edition you intend to use before purchasing a pack. SEGA’s announcement

Do you need to update or connect online to use DLC?

Yes, keep the game updated. SEGA’s March 19, 2026 update notice says, “You must update to the latest version of the game to use online modes and access DLC.” That notice listed Ver. 1.3.1 for PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Steam, and Epic Games. Version 1.3.1 is the version named in that dated notice, not necessarily the latest version now. SEGA’s Version 1.3.1 notice

Claiming an add-on can also require connectivity: SEGA’s August 25, 2026 AXEL free-update notice states, “An Internet connection is required to claim add-ons.” SEGA’s AXEL notice

What is the Werehog DLC offer for Switch 2?

SEGA Support documented a limited remedy for people who bought the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack from December 3 through December 17, 2025. Eligible purchasers could request an eShop download code for the free Werehog DLC Pack and provide proof of purchase. The support article was updated January 8, 2026; it does not establish a free Werehog entitlement for all Switch 2 owners or buyers outside that purchase window. SEGA Support’s upgrade-pack article

How to check before buying or claiming an add-on

  1. Identify your platform and edition. Open that platform’s store listing for the pack, rather than assuming a listing for another console or region applies.
  2. Check the price and what is included. Compare the current local Season Pass and individual-pack listings against the DLC you want and any content you already own.
  3. Update the game. Use your platform’s update screen to install the latest available version; the March 2026 notice specifically ties current-version access to online modes and DLC.
  4. Connect to the internet to claim add-ons. SEGA’s August 2026 AXEL notice says an internet connection is required for claiming add-ons.
  5. For the historical Werehog offer, check eligibility with SEGA Support. The documented purchase dates and proof-of-purchase requirement apply to that limited remedy only.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
