On PS5 Pro, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality, then select the setting to change its state. PSSR is not available on the standard PS5, and the option applies to compatible games rather than the entire PS5 library.
Change the PSSR setting on PS5 Pro
- From the PS5 Pro home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video.
- Select Video Output.
- Select Enhance PSSR Image Quality to change the setting. Sony documents this control as the way to turn the feature off; return to the same control to enable it. Sony’s PS5 Pro support page gives this menu path.
What PSSR does—and what the toggle affects
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel while upscaling game visuals. The upgraded version is designed to improve reconstruction precision, motion stability, fine-detail clarity, and consistency. Those are intended benefits, not a guarantee that every supported game will look or run better.

The setting concerns PS5 Pro games that support PSSR. It does not make every PS5 game use the technology, and results vary by title. A game with built-in support for enhanced PSSR may behave differently from one using the system option to apply enhanced PSSR to a game made for the original PSSR version. Sony explains the distinction and limitations in its March 16, 2026 PlayStation Blog post.
When to switch it off
If a compatible game shows unexpected visual effects, turn Enhance PSSR Image Quality off and compare the same scene. Sony says the option can be turned off if such effects occur. The change is reversible; there is no single setting that is best for every supported game.

For a useful comparison, keep the game, scene, and its selected Fidelity or Performance mode the same. Look at fine-detail clarity, image stability during motion, and any visual artifacts. Sony says outcomes vary by game; no universal numerical image-quality improvement is established.

- Confirm the console model: Enhance PSSR Image Quality is a PS5 Pro control, not a standard PS5 setting.
- Check for a system software update: Sony said the upgraded PSSR was integrated with the latest system software update, which began rolling out in phases on March 16, 2026. You can manually check for and install an update in system settings.
Sony’s support instructions specify the menu route but do not identify one firmware version required for every console. Software availability and game support may therefore depend on updates.
