But “Standard Edition” is not a straightforward current digital-storefront alternative everywhere: CD PROJEKT RED says the digital Base Game has been replaced by the Complete Edition, while some PS4 and Xbox One arrangements remain in place. What you can buy or already own depends on your platform, format, and purchase history.
What’s included in the Complete Edition?
CD PROJEKT RED describes the Complete Edition as the base game, both major expansions, and 16 free DLC items. The expansions add substantial story content: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine can also be started separately from the main menu, according to the publisher’s current FAQ.

- Base game: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- Expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
- Free DLC: 16 DLC items, as listed in the publisher’s edition documentation.
CD PROJEKT RED estimates more than 100 hours for the base game and another 50 hours for the two expansions together. Those are publisher estimates, not guaranteed or independently measured completion times. The publisher’s 2022 Complete Edition announcement provides those figures.
Is the Standard Edition still sold separately?
Not consistently across current digital storefronts. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2026 FAQ says the digital Base Game has been replaced by the Complete Edition, with the expansion content merged into it, and that the standalone expansions have been delisted. That makes older “Standard vs. Complete” buying advice potentially out of date for a new digital purchase.

The FAQ says the PS4 and Xbox One arrangements otherwise remain unchanged, except that the expansions are now available free. This is a specific exception, not a guarantee that every platform or retailer offers the same separate-edition choice. Check CD PROJEKT RED’s current Remastered FAQ for the platform-specific details.
What if you already own the Base Game or expansions?
Existing owners keep the expansion entitlements they already own. The 2026 FAQ says the expansion content is patched into the Base Game; its guidance is: “Simply update the game to the latest version to install Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.” The FAQ also says saves, cross progression, and achievements or trophies remain compatible or unaffected.
If you own the Base Game but not the expansions, check the current offer and entitlements on your platform before buying anything. The FAQ says the expansions are free in the PS4 and Xbox One arrangements, while current digital storefronts elsewhere have shifted to the Complete Edition. Do not assume an old guide’s purchase steps still match your store.

Do physical editions include everything?
It depends on the platform and the specific retail release. CD PROJEKT RED’s Nintendo Switch support FAQ says the Complete Edition’s physical and digital versions include both expansions and all 16 free DLCs; for the physical Switch edition, all content is on the game card. The same FAQ describes the Switch Base Game as allowing owners to download the free DLCs and buy the two expansions separately.

Those statements establish the Switch package details, not the contents of every platform’s physical release or every current retailer listing. For another platform, confirm the exact edition, region, and format shown on the live listing rather than relying on the Switch FAQ. See the official Nintendo Switch edition FAQ.
How do the 2022 Complete Edition and 2026 Remastered differ?
The 2022 Complete Edition launch documentation described technical and gameplay features for that release, including real-time ray tracing on PC; Performance and Ray Tracing modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X; and Performance and Quality modes on Xbox Series S. It also listed faster loading and additions such as photo mode, cross-platform progression, new camera options, quick Sign casting, map and user-interface changes, and selected community mods. These are historical 2022 launch details, not a current platform-by-platform feature list.

CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered for September 29, 2026, describing updated visuals, gameplay, and other improvements, with a free upgrade for owners on qualifying platforms. The current FAQ is the place to verify which platform and ownership combinations qualify; the 2022 feature list should not be treated as a complete description of Remastered.

The publisher’s 2016 announcement said the Game of the Year Edition included the base game, both expansions, all DLC, and updates and improvements. It also noted that the product was called Complete Edition in select territories and sales channels. That naming history explains why older listings and guides may use “GOTY” and “Complete Edition” for closely related all-in-one versions.
