Choose Gray Zone Warfare if you want a persistent open world built around missions and exploration, with the option to play PvE or PvEvP. Choose Escape from Tarkov if you prefer a raid-centered loop and, according to a September 2026 third-party guide, a choice among separate PvP, PvE and seasonal PvP profiles. Tarkov’s current mode access and price should be checked on its official purchase page before buying.
How the two games structure a session
Gray Zone Warfare: a persistent open world
MADFINGER Games describes Gray Zone Warfare as a 42 km² open world set in a Southeast Asian jungle, where players take on missions, explore, find loot and encounter AI enemies. Its official overview lists both PvE and PvEvP operations. That structure suits players who want to move through a continuing world and choose whether to include human opponents, rather than making each session feel like a separate raid.
Escape from Tarkov: raids and distinct profiles
A Tarkov Field Guide updated for patch 1.1.5.0 in September 2026 describes Escape from Tarkov as raid-centered, with separate profile environments for different ways to play. This is a third-party account, not a verified official description. The practical distinction is one of session structure: consider whether you want mission-led exploration across a persistent setting or a loop organized around raids.
How PvE and PvP options differ
Gray Zone Warfare officially lists PvE and PvEvP operations, so its stated options include play without human opponents and play where PvP is possible. The Tarkov Field Guide describes a permanent, AI-only PvE Zone with a separate profile, alongside PvP profiles. It also says PvE access may not come with the base purchase for most players. Since Tarkov’s official terms were not verified here, check its official purchase page for the current mode entitlement before choosing it as a PvE-only option.

Progression, tasks and resets
Gray Zone Warfare tasks
MADFINGER Games’ March 2026 Update 0.4 summary says the update added more than 100 tasks and contracts, updated more than 50, and brought the total above 250. The Steam feature listing for that update also mentions more than 25 new locations. These figures describe the Update 0.4 snapshot, not necessarily the current total after later changes. The developer says Update 0.4 redesigned tasks and vendor leveling, making mission progression a central part of the experience.
Tarkov profile resets
The Tarkov Field Guide’s September 2026 account for patch 1.1.5.0 says permanent PvP and PvE profiles do not wipe, while a separate seasonal PvP profile resets about every four to six months. Treat this as a dated third-party snapshot rather than a timeless or independently verified rule. If keeping progress or starting fresh on a schedule matters to you, confirm the current rules before purchase.
Gray Zone Warfare price and Early Access status
On April 1, 2026, MADFINGER Games listed these U.S. dollar prices for Gray Zone Warfare. They are the prices on that dated page, not a guarantee of the current price in every region.
| Edition | Listed price (USD) | Price note |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $39.99 | Listed April 1, 2026 |
| Tactical | $67.99 | Listed April 1, 2026 |
| Elite | $94.99 | Listed April 1, 2026 |
| Supporter | $107.99 | Discounted from $119.99 on the page dated April 1, 2026 |
MADFINGER’s edition page says equipment included with editions can also be earned in-game, and that players can upgrade by paying the price difference. The retrieved Steam listing identified the game as Early Access and said its Early Access price was below the eventual final-release price; it also said final pricing had not been determined. That is the listing’s status at retrieval, and both development status and pricing may change.
