You can install and play a GOG game on Windows with the optional GOG GALAXY client or with offline backup installers downloaded from your GOG account. The offline route does not require GALAXY. Use the game’s own GOG product page to check its Windows requirements before installing.
Choose an installation method

GOG Support Center says you do not need an additional app or launcher to play GOG games. Its offline installers are the direct alternative to GALAXY. GOG’s installation instructions and launcher FAQ describe both options.
Install a game with GOG GALAXY
- Download and install GALAXY from GOG’s GALAXY page.
- Open GALAXY and select the game in your library.
- Click Install and follow the prompts.
- When installation finishes, launch the game from GALAXY or use its installed shortcut.
GALAXY is optional. Its features do not necessarily apply to every title; for example, cloud saves are available only for supported games. See GOG’s description of GALAXY for the client features it offers.
Install a game with offline backup installers
- Sign in to your GOG account in a browser and open the game in your library.
- Select DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS.
- Download every setup file listed for that game. Some games have large installers split across multiple files, so do not stop after downloading the first one.
- Open the download folder and run the installer application. Follow its prompts to complete installation.
- Start the game from the shortcut the installer created, if available. Otherwise, open the game’s installation folder and run its executable.
The number and names of installer files vary by game. GOG’s installation instructions explain how to find them in your library.

Check the Windows requirements
Do not assume one Windows requirement applies to every GOG game. Check the specific title’s GOG product page for its minimum specifications; GOG’s user agreement says requirements vary by content and advises installing games on a computer that meets or exceeds the listed minimums. GALAXY has separate client requirements. GOG Support Center currently lists Windows 10 64-bit or newer for GALAXY 2.1, and Windows 8 or newer with the latest system updates for GALAXY 2.0. These are requirements for those client versions, not a general compatibility guarantee for GOG games. GALAXY system requirements

Fix the GALAXY E2 dependency-installation error
If GALAXY shows an E2 error saying it failed to finalize an update, GOG Support identifies a failure to install game dependencies as the cause. Its support article gives this workaround for that specific error:
- Close GALAXY.
- Open the GALAXY client folder and locate
Dependencies-Temp. - Rename that folder to
Dependencies. If Windows asks whether to merge folders, follow the merge instruction in GOG’s article. - Reopen GALAXY and retry the update.
If that does not resolve the error, GOG’s alternative is to install the affected game with its offline installers and then wait for GALAXY to import it. Follow the steps in the E2 error support article; do not treat this folder change as general Windows troubleshooting. GOG’s developer documentation on redistributables says required Windows redistributables are installed by GALAXY and packaged with offline installers.
