QSSR is an optional AI-upscaling graphics mode for standard PS5, not a setting that guarantees a sharper image in every scene. If a supported game looks blurry or shimmery with QSSR enabled, compare it with the game’s other graphics options in the same scene and keep the mode that looks better. Sony has not identified a universal cause or fix for these artifacts.
First, check whether you mean QSSR or PSSR
Sony announced QSSR as a faster tier of AI upscaling for the standard PS5. PSSR is Sony’s separate AI-upscaling technology for PS5 Pro. The names are similar, but the console features and controls are not interchangeable. Sony’s October 1, 2026 announcement describes QSSR as an additional graphics option in supported games and names Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first titles to offer it. It does not provide a complete compatibility list or one menu path shared by all games.
So, if you have a standard PS5, look for QSSR in the supported game’s graphics options. If you have a PS5 Pro, the setting that may be relevant is called “Enhance PSSR Image Quality,” and applies only to supported PSSR games.
Why QSSR might look blurry or shimmery
Sony and the developers describe QSSR’s intended benefits as improved fine detail, clarity, and image stability. Those are design goals, not a promise that every scene will look better to every player. Upscaling and image reconstruction can affect how detail and stability appear, so a particular scene may look worse to you with the option enabled. That is a reasonable explanation to investigate, not a diagnosis Sony has made of any individual blur or shimmer complaint.

Sony’s announcement quotes Insomniac’s Mike Fitzgerald describing more pixel-level clarity and stability in Marvel’s Wolverine, while Sucker Punch’s Jasmin Patry says QSSR resolves fine detail with temporal stability in Ghost of Yōtei. These are developer descriptions of intended results; they do not establish a universal best setting or explain a specific artifact.
Try these checks on a standard PS5
- Confirm the game supports QSSR. Check the game’s current graphics options and update notes. Sony identified Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first QSSR games, but said developers could adopt the feature more broadly; that is not confirmation that every PS5 game supports it.
- Update the game, then find its graphics settings. Sony said the first QSSR games were patched to add the option. The exact menu location can vary by game; Sony has not published a universal route.
- Compare the same scene with the option changed. Toggle QSSR off and on, or compare the other graphics modes the game offers. Use the same view and, if possible, compare both a still moment and movement. This helps you see whether the issue changes with the selected mode; it is a practical comparison, not a formal Sony test procedure.
- Choose by what you see. Keep QSSR enabled if it improves the image for you. If another available mode looks clearer or steadier, use that instead. Sony does not designate one setting as best for every game or scene.
If you have a PS5 Pro, check its separate PSSR option
Do not look for “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” as a QSSR control on standard PS5. On PS5 Pro, Sony says the setting can improve image stability in supported PSSR games, but results vary by title. If enabling it produces unexpected visual effects, Sony says you can turn it off and compare again. See Sony’s announcement about upgraded PSSR and the PS5 Pro feature page for the scope and supported-title caveat.

- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
When a comparison does not explain the problem
If the artifact does not change when you switch graphics modes, the available Sony information does not establish QSSR as its cause. For more specific troubleshooting, note the game, console model, selected graphics mode, and whether the effect appears in screenshots as well as on the display. Those details can help narrow down what to investigate, but Sony’s QSSR announcements do not identify display, cable, or hardware changes as fixes for QSSR-related blur or shimmer.
Do not confuse Sony’s separate PS4 image-quality guidance in its PS5 Pro troubleshooting page with a QSSR remedy: it addresses an adjacent feature, not standard-PS5 QSSR troubleshooting.
