For a self-managed 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream, use a cloud virtual machine (VM) in an Indian region to run your playout and encoder, then send the continuous feed to YouTube Live. AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure all have documented cloud regions in India, but the evidence here does not establish a cheapest provider, a universally best VM, or a one-click YouTube relay from any of them. For less infrastructure work, StreamNeo is a YouTube playout service that runs uploaded videos from the cloud instead of a VM you manage.

Choose between a managed playout service and a cloud VM

There are two different decisions: whether to operate the playout system yourself, and which cloud provider to use if you do. A VM gives you a general-purpose server on which you install and maintain the media files, playlist logic, and encoder. The encoder sends an ingest feed to YouTube Live; YouTube then transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers.

A provider’s managed live-video API or pipeline is not automatically a YouTube sender. Such a service may encode, package, store, or deliver video through the provider’s own services. Confirm that a product explicitly supports output to YouTube Live before treating it as a direct playout option.

1. StreamNeo — the simplest fit for uploaded-video playout

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the content in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is the first option to consider if you want always-on YouTube playout without managing a VM: any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card.

2. AWS — general-purpose compute in Mumbai or Hyderabad

AWS identifies cloud regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad. You can investigate a VM-based setup there, but check the exact EC2 instance type’s availability and price in the region you intend to use. AWS also documents a CloudFront live-video pipeline involving encoding, packaging, and content delivery. That documented pipeline should not be mistaken for evidence that it directly sends a feed into YouTube Live.

3. Google Cloud — general-purpose compute in Mumbai or Delhi

Google documents India regions including Mumbai and Delhi. Its Live Stream API documentation describes storing stream manifests and segment files in Cloud Storage; that does not establish direct YouTube playout. For a YouTube destination, verify the workflow end to end and determine whether you need a separate VM running an encoder.

4. Microsoft Azure — check India region and VM SKU availability

Microsoft announced four Azure regions in India, including India South Central in Hyderabad, in an announcement dated August 6, 2026. Region presence alone does not establish that a particular VM SKU or video service is available there, or that Azure provides a direct YouTube playout product. Confirm the intended VM and services in the current Azure region selector and pricing tools before designing around them.

Plan the VM workflow before choosing a size

For a self-managed system, the VM is the sender, not the audience-facing video host. It must keep a valid encoded feed flowing to YouTube Live. Decide these items before deploying:

  • Target output: choose resolution and frame rate based on the source material and the picture quality you need. Higher output rates require more sustained upload bandwidth and may increase encoding workload.
  • Source and encoding: establish whether your workflow sends already suitable media through a playout process or performs live encoding on the VM. Live encoding adds CPU or hardware-encoder requirements that cannot be inferred from region presence alone.
  • Media storage: estimate how much source video and playlist material you need to keep accessible, and include persistent storage in the cost estimate.
  • Region and VM SKU: select a region based on availability and your operational needs, then confirm that the exact VM type and any required accelerator are offered there.
  • Connection and recovery: plan how the encoder restarts after a process or VM interruption, how you will monitor YouTube stream health, and how you will be alerted when recovery fails.
  • Rights and channel eligibility: use content you have rights to stream and check YouTube’s current live-streaming and monetization policies. A stream running continuously does not itself establish rights to the material or eligibility for monetization.

Set YouTube ingest parameters around the intended quality

YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP, and supports RTMP/RTMPS streaming. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; keyframes should not be more than four seconds apart. Test before relying on the stream and monitor stream health while it is live.

For H.264, YouTube’s recommended ingest bitrates are:

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps
4K at 30 fps 42 Mbps
4K at 60 fps 50 Mbps

These are YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, not guaranteed minimum bandwidth figures or VM specifications. Your sender needs a stable upload path with headroom above the video bitrate for audio and network variation. The VM must also sustain any live encoding workload. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for viewers, so do not assume that sending a higher source resolution removes the need to test the whole path.

Deploy and validate a self-managed stream

  1. Choose the output and media workflow. Set the target resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and whether encoding happens on the VM. Use YouTube’s recommended H.264 figures above as reference points when that is your chosen codec.
  2. Compare regions and VM types. Check current availability for the exact instance in AWS Mumbai or Hyderabad, Google Cloud Mumbai or Delhi, or an available Azure India region. Confirm that the machine can handle the encoder workload; the fact that a provider has a region in India does not prove that every VM type is offered there.
  3. Estimate the recurring bill. Add continuous compute, persistent storage for source media, and network transfer. Use the provider’s calculator for your actual region, VM, storage, and schedule; no provider-wide cheapest choice follows from region availability alone.
  4. Prepare the YouTube live event and key. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and obtain its stream key. Treat that key as a password: do not publish it in a script repository, log, screenshot, or public message. Enter it only into the encoder’s ingest configuration.
  5. Configure the encoder and playlist. Set a supported ingest protocol, preferably RTMPS, configure CBR and a two-second keyframe interval (never over four seconds), and make sure the playlist advances or loops as intended. Exact controls depend on the encoder software you choose.
  6. Test with representative content. Run a test with the actual audio, motion, codec, and target quality. Verify that YouTube receives the expected picture and sound and reports a healthy stream before relying on continuous operation.
  7. Make recovery observable. Configure the playout process to restart after failure, monitor the VM and encoder, and check YouTube stream health. A restart policy is not proof of uninterrupted service; test what happens after encoder and VM interruptions and provide a way to intervene if recovery fails.

Common problems and practical fixes

  • YouTube reports an unstable or unhealthy stream: check whether the sender can maintain a steady upload rate, whether the configured bitrate is appropriate, and whether VM or encoder load is causing interruptions. Test again at the intended output quality.
  • The stream will not connect: verify that the selected YouTube event is live, the correct stream key is configured, and the encoder is sending to the correct ingest endpoint using RTMPS or another supported protocol. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the sender.
  • Video stutters while audio continues: inspect encoder load and source playback first, then test a lower output resolution or frame rate. A region name alone does not indicate the capacity of a particular VM.
  • The playlist stops or repeats the wrong item: check the playout software’s playlist and loop behavior, file availability, and the process state after each item ends. Re-test a full playlist cycle.
  • The monthly cloud bill is higher than the VM estimate: review storage and outbound network transfer alongside compute, and check whether the estimate assumed continuous rather than occasional operation.
  • A managed media API delivers files but not to YouTube: verify its documented output destination. Packaging or storing manifests and segments is not the same as sending an ingest feed to YouTube Live.

Or let it run in the cloud
