You can keep a YouTube stream running without leaving a computer at home by either renting a Windows cloud PC or VPS and running OBS on it, or using hosted playout for prerecorded videos and playlists. A cloud PC gives you desktop-level control, but you manage the encoder, monitoring, costs, and recovery yourself; hosted playout is narrower and simpler when you only need to loop uploaded media. Neither approach guarantees uninterrupted streaming.
Choose the right way to keep your stream running
Self-managed cloud PC or Windows VPS
Rent a remote Windows machine, install OBS, provide your video or other sources, and connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream. This suits a workflow that needs desktop applications, custom scenes, or direct control of OBS. You remain responsible for keeping the VM, encoder, storage, and network path working and for responding when something stops.
Hosted playout for prerecorded content
If the stream is made from uploaded recordings or a playlist, a hosted playout service can run that content from its own cloud infrastructure without giving you a general-purpose desktop. It is not a substitute for a cloud PC when you need to operate OBS or use other desktop software.
Check YouTube eligibility and plan the broadcast

Confirm that the channel is eligible to go live. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start. Decide whether you need OBS and desktop control, or only cloud playback of prerecorded videos. This choice determines whether you need a Windows machine or a hosted playout service.

Prepare content you have the right to broadcast. Check YouTube’s applicable copyright and other content policies, and obtain any permissions your use requires. The rules that apply depend on the material and circumstances; a cloud setup does not grant content rights.

Decide whether you need a YouTube replay. YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That guidance does not promise an archive for longer continuous streams. If a replay matters, plan around the under-12-hour guidance and verify current YouTube behavior before relying on a longer broadcast.
Compare rupee-billed cloud options by the complete cost
A listed monthly rupee price does not by itself tell you whether a service is orderable in your region or suitable for continuous encoding. Confirm the bill at your intended runtime, including Windows licensing, GST, storage, outbound traffic or bandwidth limits, backups, and support. Also distinguish a desktop-oriented Cloud PC from a Windows Server VPS: they are different product types.

The cited sources do not establish that any specific VM plan has been tested for nonstop OBS encoding or that a provider’s stated port speed will be sustained for your stream. Test the actual machine with your intended source, resolution, encoder, and bitrate before depending on it.

Set up OBS on the cloud PC or VPS

Connect to the Windows cloud machine and install OBS. OBS’s guide describes an Auto-Configuration Wizard and adding sources such as media, images, text, camera, gameplay, and desktop capture. The guide is dated 2021-08-25, so use it for the basic workflow and follow current YouTube guidance for stream settings: OBS Quick Start Guide.

Run OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard and choose the streaming use case. Create a scene, then add the sources your broadcast needs. For a prerecorded video, add a media source and configure playback or looping as appropriate; for a production using other inputs, add the relevant capture or media sources.

Check the audio meters while representative content is playing. Confirm that the stream includes the sound you intend and does not rely on a source that will disappear when a user session closes or the VM restarts.

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or manage the stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a password: do not show it in screenshots, recordings, or public pages. YouTube’s encoder setup is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Choose output settings the VM can sustain. YouTube recommends H.264 video, CBR, AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Select quality based on a tested upload bitrate, use representative motion and sound during testing, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health feedback. See YouTube live encoder settings. Do not assume the machine can sustain a resolution or bitrate just because its plan lists a certain CPU or network port.

Start streaming from OBS and check the preview in Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s preview and Go live workflow, then watch stream health during a sustained trial before relying on the setup.

Arrange a way to check the broadcast and restart OBS or the VM if it stops. Continuous operation depends on the VM, encoder, storage, network path, YouTube ingest, and your monitoring and recovery process; renting a cloud machine alone is not an uptime guarantee.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

You cannot start a live stream: check channel live-stream eligibility and allow for first-time activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours.

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: verify that OBS has the correct stream URL and current stream key, and that streaming is started in OBS. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.

Stream health reports problems or playback stutters: reduce output quality or bitrate to a level the VM’s measured upload can sustain. Check CPU load and test again with representative motion and audio; a port-speed listing is not proof of sustained throughput.

The stream is live but has no sound: inspect OBS audio meters and confirm the intended source is included and active. Test playback end to end rather than relying only on the desktop’s local audio.

The broadcast stops after a VM interruption or OBS failure: check that the VM and encoder are running, then reconnect OBS to the YouTube stream and monitor the preview and stream health. Build monitoring and a recovery plan into a self-managed setup.

You cannot find a replay: YouTube’s cited automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. Do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived under that statement alone.
