For most PC problems in 007 First Light, start with the reversible fixes: restart the computer, install Windows and graphics-driver updates, verify the game files, and disable overlays. Then match the next step to the symptom: an SSD and cleared shader cache for loading hitching, lower graphics settings for low FPS, or temperature and clock checks for crashes after a long session. These PC steps do not apply to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S; console players should use the IO Interactive Player Support hub.
Start with the platform and current PC requirements
IO Interactive’s PC troubleshooting guidance covers Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store installs. Before changing settings, note your storefront, game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, display resolution, graphics preset, install drive, and where the problem occurs. Record the exact error text if one appears.
The current IO Interactive Player Support requirements page, updated September 15, 2026, lists these PC requirements:
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Not stated on the current support page |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-9500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i5-13500 or AMD Ryzen 5 7600 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700, or Intel discrete equivalent | NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or Intel discrete equivalent |
| Storage | 80 GB available; SSD required | Not stated on the current support page |
These are requirements, not promised frame rates. An earlier IO Interactive announcement from January 2026 listed 32 GB RAM for recommended specs; the later support page lists 16 GB. Check the current requirements on the official requirements page and the current store listing before making an upgrade decision. The Steam listing says the Path Tracing update is live and PC specs were updated to reflect it, so launch-era expectations may not describe performance with that feature enabled.

Try the low-risk fixes first
- Restart the PC. This clears temporary issues before you change configuration.
- Update Windows: open Windows Settings, check Windows Update, install available updates, then restart.
- Update the graphics driver: install the current driver for your GPU and restart.
- Verify or repair the game files: use the file verification or repair option in Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or the Xbox app, depending on where you installed the game.
- Disable overlays and recording tools: turn off Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, Xbox Game Bar, GPU overlays, and capture utilities, then retest.
These are the initial steps in IO Interactive’s PC troubleshooting guide. Change one thing at a time where practical, so you can tell which change affected the problem.
Fix low FPS or uneven performance
Lower the settings with the largest performance impact
If frame rates are consistently low, reduce resolution first. If that is not enough, lower shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance. Close demanding background applications as well. There is no single best preset for every PC, and the available performance depends on hardware, resolution, game build, and whether features such as Path Tracing are enabled.

Check laptop power and background load
For a laptop, connect the power adapter and set Windows power mode to Best performance. If performance remains poor, close other resource-heavy apps before lowering more settings.
Consider VRAM or RAM pressure when textures misbehave
If severe hitching occurs alongside texture pop-in, IO Interactive’s guide identifies a possible VRAM limit. Reduce resolution and texture-heavy settings and retest. This symptom is a clue, not proof that a particular component is faulty.

Reduce stutter and hitching during loading or movement
- Confirm the game is on an SSD. IO Interactive lists SSD storage as required; check the drive where the game is installed, not just whether the PC has another SSD.
- Make sure the install drive has free space. A nearly full drive can complicate loading and streaming.
- Clear the DirectX Shader Cache: open Windows Disk Cleanup, select the system drive, select DirectX Shader Cache, and run cleanup.
- Restart and retest in the same area or activity where the hitching occurred.
An SSD is a requirement and can help address loading-related hitching, but it will not necessarily resolve crashes or low frame rates caused by other factors.
Address input lag or floaty controls
Try enabling V-Sync or setting an FPS cap slightly below your monitor’s refresh rate. Disable overlays and recording tools while testing, since they can affect responsiveness. If you change one display option, retest before changing several others.

Troubleshoot crashes and launch failures
If the game will not launch or shows a black screen
Begin with the restart, Windows and GPU-driver updates, file repair, and overlay checks above. Then remove custom launch options. For Steam or Epic installs, IO Interactive also suggests testing the launcher with administrator privileges. If a security program may be blocking the game, test temporarily and cautiously; if that identifies the cause, add an exception for the game folder or launcher and re-enable antivirus protection.
A clean boot can help identify a background-software conflict. Reinstalling the game is a last resort, after the less disruptive checks. IO Interactive’s August 28, 2026 Game Update 1.1.1 announcement says it improved overall stability and fixed a PC black screen at launch that could cause a client crash. That fix addresses a named issue; it does not establish that every launch crash is resolved.

If the game crashes during play
- Verify or repair files, update the GPU driver, disable overlays, and restart.
- Temporarily return GPU, CPU, and RAM settings to stock by removing overclocks. If crashes follow longer sessions, test without GPU overclocking or RAM XMP/EXPO settings.
- Reduce demanding graphics settings and monitor temperatures and throttling, especially if the failure occurs after 10–30 minutes. Heat is one possibility to investigate, not a diagnosis.
- If Windows virtual memory has been manually configured, set it to System managed and retest.
- Check Windows Event Viewer around the time of the crash for relevant errors. If needed, consider a clean GPU-driver reinstall.
BIOS updates are an advanced measure, not a routine crash fix. Attempt one only if you are comfortable following the motherboard manufacturer’s instructions.
Check for game updates and report a persistent problem
Install the latest game update and check IO Interactive’s Known Issues and Player Support pages for a matching problem. The current Steam listing notes that Path Tracing is live and the PC specifications were updated for it; compare your system with current requirements and settings rather than assuming launch-era performance figures still apply.
If the basic checks do not help, contact IO Interactive Player Support. Include:
- Your storefront, country or region, and the date and time of the problem with timezone.
- The exact error code or text, where the failure occurs, and steps that reproduce it.
- The troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
- Your CPU, GPU, RAM, and Windows version.
- A DxDiag report attached to the support request.
Capturing this information makes it easier for support to distinguish a game issue from a driver, configuration, or system-specific problem.
