What kind of single-player game is 007 First Light?
IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as a third-person action-adventure that blends stealth and action, built around an original, reimagined origin story for a young James Bond. PlayStation labels it a single-player experience. That makes it a story-led Bond adventure rather than a multiplayer-focused release.
The game launched on May 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to IO Interactive’s May 21 launch announcement. PlayStation’s US listing also gives May 27, 2026, as the PS5 release date. The announcement listed Nintendo Switch 2 for summer 2026; the current Switch 2 date is not established here, so check its current platform listing if that is where you plan to play.
How much freedom do the missions offer?
There is evidence of improvisation, but it comes with an important limit: PlayStation.Blog’s April 30, 2026 hands-on report covered three missions, not the complete campaign. It described action, improvisation and freedom in those missions. That suggests the game can give players room to respond to situations, but it does not establish that every mission supports equally broad approaches.

The finished game received a more qualified assessment from PC Gamer in its May 29, 2026 review. The reviewer praised some interstitial sequences but described the broader experience as constrained by its design philosophy or the Bond license. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not evidence of a critical consensus.
If you want a cinematic Bond adventure
The official framing and preview coverage make the game a more natural fit if you value Bond’s story, action sequences and a mix of stealth and combat. The preview’s positive impression of improvisation adds appeal for players who want some flexibility without assuming the campaign is an expansive stealth simulation.

If you want Hitman-style systemic problem-solving
Be cautious if your main reason for considering the game is IO Interactive’s Hitman missions and their repeated, systemic problem-solving. The preview supports some mission freedom, while PC Gamer’s review warns that the finished experience can feel constrained. Neither source establishes that First Light reproduces the same kind of sandbox structure across its campaign.
What replay options are available?
An October 1, 2026 TechRadar update report says the Extended Operations update added New Game Plus and a 00 difficulty. Those features offer additional ways to replay the campaign, but they do not prove that story missions have been redesigned or that every mission changes substantially on a repeat playthrough. TechRadar also reported “more than 700 fixes and improvements”; that is the report’s description of the update, not an independently audited count.

Can you play the campaign offline?
007 First Light Player Support says the full campaign can be played offline after the first patch. This does not mean you can download or install that initial patch without an internet connection. If offline play matters, connect to the internet for setup and the patch before relying on the game without a connection.
