If viewers are rewinding your podcast while it is still live, turn off Enable DVR in YouTube Studio’s stream settings, if your streaming method supports it. This stops viewers from seeking back during the broadcast; it does not stop YouTube from making a full replay available after the stream ends. If the broadcast itself is restarting, DVR is not the fix—the two issues are different.

First, identify what is restarting

“Replay” can mean either of two things on YouTube:

  • Rewinding during the live broadcast: Viewers pause or seek backward while the stream is still running. YouTube’s DVR setting controls this behavior. YouTube Help: Turn on DVR on live streams
  • A replay after the broadcast: YouTube may publish an archived recording on your channel after the live stream ends. DVR does not control whether that archive exists. YouTube Help: Archive live streams

If your encoder or broadcast is actually stopping and starting again, disabling DVR will not fix it. The YouTube guidance cited here explains DVR and archiving, not causes of encoder restarts.

Turn off DVR to prevent rewinding while live

For a supported encoder stream, change the DVR setting in YouTube Studio. You can change it while live, but the change applies only to viewers who start playing the stream after you make it. Viewers already watching may not be affected. YouTube Help: Turn on DVR on live streams

When this setting may not work

YouTube says disabling DVR is not supported for webcam and mobile streaming. The general stream-settings guidance also distinguishes encoder or mobile streams from webcam streams; do not assume the toggle will be available or effective for every setup. DVR may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. YouTube Help: Turn on DVR on live streams · YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

Keep DVR on if you want viewers to rewind

DVR is useful when podcast viewers arrive late or want to revisit something said earlier without waiting for the archive. Leave Enable DVR on if that live rewind experience matters more than preventing seeking. It affects playback during the broadcast, not whether an archive is available afterward.

Control the replay after the podcast ends

If you want to remove or limit the post-stream replay, manage the archived video separately. YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. From YouTube Studio’s Content page, you can change an archive’s privacy or delete it. For a stream over 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured, so make a local recording if you need a dependable backup. YouTube Help: Archive live streams

Do not confuse DVR with latency

Latency controls how quickly viewers receive the live feed; DVR controls whether they can pause or rewind. Lower latency can make buffering more likely, but changing latency is not YouTube’s documented control for preventing live rewind. Keep the latency setting aligned with your interaction and playback needs, and use DVR—not latency—to control seeking. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings · YouTube Help: Understand live streaming latency

Troubleshooting: the setting did not solve it

  • Viewers can still rewind: Confirm that DVR is off under Stream settings → Additional settings. Remember that the change applies to viewers who start playback after it is made.
  • You cannot find the DVR toggle: Check how you started the stream. YouTube does not support disabling DVR for webcam and mobile streaming; the toggle may not be available or effective with those methods.
  • The stream itself keeps stopping or restarting: DVR only changes live seeking. Investigate the encoder or broadcast interruption separately; the platform guidance cited here does not identify its cause.
  • The replay appears after the stream ends: That is the archive, not live DVR. Change its privacy or delete it from YouTube Studio’s Content page.
  • A very long podcast has no archive: YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. Keep a local recording when you need a backup.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube podcast built from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo can loop the video from the cloud so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.
