A single file uses the Media Source’s Loop option; a playlist uses a VLC Video source’s Loop Playlist option. Then compare the OBS preview and a local recording with YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and the viewer-facing stream to find where the picture disappears. The title alone does not reveal the cause.
Check the source that plays the yoga video
A live stream made from a prerecorded video is controlled by the encoder or streaming software—not by YouTube’s viewer-side repeat control. In OBS, locate the scene and source carrying the video, then identify whether it is a single file or a playlist.
For one video file
- In OBS, select the scene used for the stream and find the source that plays the yoga video.
- Open that source’s properties and enable Loop. OBS documents this control as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. OBS: Media Sources.
- Test the source through the end of the file and into the next playback. Confirm the source remains visible in the scene.
For a playlist
- Confirm that the scene uses a VLC Video source rather than a single-file Media Source.
- Open the VLC Video source properties and check Loop Playlist.
- If VLC Video is not available as a source type, OBS says VLC must be installed for it to appear. See OBS: VLC Video Source.
Inspect playback-end and visibility settings
In the Media Source properties, check whether Show nothing when playback ends is enabled. OBS documents that this setting automatically hides the source after the file finishes. That makes it worth checking when a screen goes black at the loop boundary, but it does not prove this setting caused the problem or guarantee that changing it will fix it. Also check that the source and scene intended for the stream remain active and visible.
Find where the picture disappears
Compare the same moment in four places. These observations narrow down which part of the setup to investigate, but they do not establish a root cause by themselves.

YouTube advises checking the encoder’s own output and errors, CPU load, and local archive. It notes that if the encoder view is healthy, an outbound-connection problem may be involved. See YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your live stream.
Test the loop boundary and monitor stream health
- Before relying on the stream for a live event, run a test that continues past the end of the video and into its next playback.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check it before starting the stream. YouTube’s encoder guide says to wait for the preview to appear, then click Go live. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- During the test, compare the OBS preview, a local recording, the Live Control Room preview, and the watch page. Note the exact point where they diverge.
- Review Live Control Room stream-health messages and monitor audio and video quality. For supported stream-format errors, YouTube identifies H.264 video and AAC audio as the expected formats. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Check upload capacity if YouTube’s incoming stream is affected
If OBS and the local recording look normal but YouTube’s incoming preview does not, check the upload connection and encoder’s stream-health messages. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; this is its guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. Network disruption can break a stream. A loop-timed black screen does not, by itself, show that the network is at fault. Use the comparison above to decide whether to start with the source, local output, or YouTube delivery.
If the checks do not isolate the cause
The right next step depends on details that are not yet known: the encoder, operating system, source type, OBS settings, and whether the black screen appears locally or only on YouTube. Record those details along with which of the four views first goes black and whether it happens exactly at the file’s end. That gives you a clearer basis for further troubleshooting.
