To pin a message during a live YouTube stream, open live chat, select the message’s More menu, then choose Pin. Only the channel owner can pin, and only one creator-pinned message can be active at a time. A Super Chat is a viewer’s paid highlighted message; it is not the same as the creator’s pin.
Pin a message on desktop
- Open the active YouTube live stream or Premiere and its live chat window.
- Find the message you want to keep visible. It can be your own message or a viewer’s message.
- Open the message’s More menu and select Pin. YouTube’s live chat instructions describe this control.
To change the pinned message, pin another one; it replaces the current pin. To remove a pin without replacing it, open More on the pinned message and choose Unpin.
Pin a message in the YouTube mobile app
- Open the active stream in the YouTube app and view live chat.
- Find the message you want to pin.
- Tap More on that message, then tap Pin.
The same rules apply on mobile: the channel owner pins, and there is one creator-pinned message at a time. YouTube’s mobile directions begin with creating a mobile live stream, but the pin action applies to a message from the creator or a viewer.
Super Chat and a creator pin are different

Who is allowed to pin?
The channel owner can pin or unpin messages. Moderators cannot pin. Depending on their role, moderators can still remove messages, put users in timeout, hide users, and review held messages; managing moderators have additional chat settings but do not have access to Live Control Room or YouTube Studio. For a continuous stream, arrange for the channel owner to be available when a pin needs changing if the person operating chat is only a moderator. This follows from YouTube’s role permissions; it is not a separate YouTube requirement.

Why Super Chat might not be available
Super Chats and Super Stickers require an eligible creator and eligible stream. Creator location and compliance with YouTube’s fan-funding requirements and terms are among the conditions. They are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, and when live chat or comments are off. Check the channel’s Earn area in YouTube Studio for access rather than assuming the feature is enabled. YouTube’s eligibility and availability guidance lists the restrictions.
What changes on a 24/7 stream?
The pin procedure remains a live-chat action; YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not say that pinning stops working after a stream has run for a certain length of time. However, archive and rewind behavior have separate long-stream limits: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers a complete replay or full rewind window for a 24/7 broadcast.
