If your YouTube live stream ends when a rain video reaches its last frame, enable looping in the encoder that is playing the file. In OBS, open the rain clip’s Media Source properties and turn on Loop. YouTube’s auto-stop setting controls broadcast behavior; it does not replay a finished video.

Why the stream stops at the end of the rain video

The rain clip is a local playback source, and the encoder sends its output to YouTube. When playback reaches the end, the source may stop producing the picture you expect. The fix is to make that source repeat. YouTube stream keys connect an encoder feed to your channel; they do not control playback. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in its streaming setup help.

Loop one rain video in OBS

  1. In OBS, find the rain video in the Sources list. If it is not there, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
  2. Right-click the Media Source and choose Properties.
  3. Enable Loop, then select OK. OBS describes this option as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed; its documented default is Off. See OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.
  4. Watch the OBS preview through the clip’s end and confirm that it starts again. Check the transition before relying on the live broadcast.

OBS Media Source supports local video files including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. The loop setting applies to that source; it is not a YouTube setting.

Loop a playlist of rain videos

If you want several clips to play in sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding a single Media Source for each file.

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS requires VLC for this source type to be available.
  2. Add a VLC Video source and populate its playlist with the video files you want to play.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist if you want the playlist to restart after the last item.
  4. Watch the preview through the last clip and confirm that playback returns to the first item.

OBS documents Loop Playlist as On by default for VLC Video. That default is separate from the Media Source Loop setting, which is Off by default. Check the property that matches the source you are using.

If OBS loops but YouTube still ends

If the preview repeats correctly but the YouTube broadcast stops or loses video, the file loop is working; investigate the connection from OBS to YouTube instead.

  • Check that OBS is still streaming and that it is sending to the intended YouTube broadcast.
  • In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect the stream’s status and stream health for connection or configuration issues.
  • Confirm that OBS is using the correct stream key for the broadcast. Treat the key as a credential: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it has been exposed.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes an active stream as one receiving data and exposes health status and configuration issues. Those indicators can help distinguish a playback problem from a feed or connection problem.

What YouTube auto-stop does—and does not do

YouTube’s auto-stop option concerns the broadcast lifecycle, not the encoder’s file playback. The LiveBroadcasts API says that when enabled, a broadcast should stop automatically around one minute after the channel owner stops streaming video on the bound stream. It does not restart a finished Media Source or loop a playlist. If OBS continues sending a valid looping feed, auto-stop is not what makes the source repeat. See YouTube’s LiveBroadcasts API documentation.

Copyright still applies to looped video

Looping changes how your authorized video plays; it does not grant permission to use someone else’s footage or music. Use a rain video and any accompanying audio that you created, licensed, or otherwise have the right to stream. Repeating a clip does not remove copyright obligations or guarantee that YouTube will treat a channel’s content as eligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s rules and rights guidance for your situation.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want OBS and your computer to remain on, StreamNeo can keep an uploaded video or playlist looping as a YouTube live stream from the cloud. The setup is: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The service plays uploaded videos; it does not stream a camera.
