Use UrlFetchApp.fetch() in Google Apps Script to send an HTTPS request to a screenshot API, then check the HTTP status before using the returned bytes as an image. The request format, authentication, and output depend on the provider. The example below uses ScreenshotOne’s documented API; India-specific rendering is a separate option from where Apps Script sends its request.
What calling a screenshot API from Apps Script involves
Apps Script’s UrlFetchApp service can make outbound HTTP and HTTPS requests to external hosts. Google says the service uses Google’s network infrastructure, so an Apps Script project running for a user in India does not, on the evidence available, need a different request pattern just because of that user’s location. See Google’s UrlFetchApp reference.
The screenshot provider determines the endpoint, authentication, parameters, and response format. In the example here, ScreenshotOne accepts GET or POST requests at https://api.screenshotone.com/take, and can return screenshot bytes. Its error responses are JSON, not image data. The provider’s API documentation is the authority for its request options and response behavior.
Set up the Apps Script permission
Apps Script usually detects required OAuth scopes automatically. If your project’s manifest explicitly lists scopes, include https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.external_request; otherwise an outbound request may fail for lack of authorization.

Open the project’s
appsscript.jsonmanifest. If it is hidden, enable “Show ‘appsscript.json’ manifest file in editor” in the project settings. -
In the manifest’s
oauthScopesarray, addhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.external_requestwhile retaining any other scopes the project requires. -
Save the project and run the function. When prompted, authorize the requested access.

Call ScreenshotOne and handle the response
This example uses POST with a JSON payload and the X-Access-Key header, both documented by ScreenshotOne. It returns a blob on success and throws an error containing the response body for a non-2xx status. The code is documentation-based and has not been executed here.

Protect the API key
The sample string is only a placeholder. Do not commit a real key to a shared repository, publish it in client-side code, or expose it in a public URL. ScreenshotOne also documents passing a key as a GET parameter or in a POST JSON body, but a header avoids putting the credential directly in the request URL. Use an appropriate private secret-storage approach for your deployment and restrict access to the project.

Alternative request formats
ScreenshotOne also accepts GET requests and documents API-key authentication through a request parameter or POST body. For larger or more complex requests, POST avoids placing the full parameter set in a URL; the exact limits and supported fields are provider-specific. Whichever form you use, keep the key private and inspect the HTTP status before treating the body as image bytes.
Render the target page as it appears in India
“In India” can mean either that the Apps Script user is in India or that the page should be rendered from an India location. These are distinct. ScreenshotOne documents ip_country_code=in as an India regional-rendering option. That changes the target page’s geographic presentation; it does not establish that an India-based user can create an account or pay for the service. Its documentation also cautions that using a proxy may be slower. See the ScreenshotOne documentation.

Quotas, usage, and reliability
Apps Script limits apply independently of the screenshot provider’s own quotas and plan limits. Google’s quota page displayed URL Fetch allowances of 20,000 calls per day for consumer accounts and 100,000 per day for Workspace accounts when checked in 2026; Google warns that quotas can change. These are Apps Script limits, not a promise of available screenshot captures. Check the current Apps Script quotas and your provider’s current limits before relying on a daily volume.

A successful HTTP response does not guarantee that the target page rendered as intended. The provider’s response and any available page-status information should be interpreted according to its documentation.

Use bounded retries for transient network or provider failures, with a delay between attempts. Avoid immediate, unbounded retry loops that can exhaust quotas or duplicate provider work.

For batch jobs, record the target URL, response code, and failure reason without logging API keys. Keep provider limits, Apps Script quotas, execution time, and storage limits in view.
Troubleshooting common failures
