To access an already-running browser’s pages and contexts, connect with await puppeteer.connect({ browserWSEndpoint }), then call browser.pages() or inspect browser.browserContexts(). Use page.createCDPSession() only when you need a Chrome DevTools Protocol session attached to a particular page; it does not retrieve the browser’s existing pages or login state.
Connect Puppeteer to the running browser
You need the browser’s WebSocket debugger endpoint. The browser supplies its own endpoint; it is not a universal URL. Puppeteer’s Browser.wsEndpoint() API documentation describes the endpoint format and is labeled version 25.12.0. A browser can also expose its webSocketDebuggerUrl at http://HOST:PORT/json/version, where HOST and PORT are the values for that browser. Replace the example endpoint below with the one provided by your running browser. The browser must be reachable from the process running your Node.js code.

Find the page in the right browser context
A BrowserContext is an individual user context. Cookies and local storage are isolated between contexts, so a page in one context may not have the authentication state of a page in another. Puppeteer’s BrowserContext documentation describes this isolation.
browser.pages() lists open pages across the browser’s contexts. To inspect contexts and list pages within each one, use:

A new or separate context does not share cookies or local storage with another context. Puppeteer also documents that a page opened with window.open belongs to its parent page’s context.
Use a page-level CDP session only for protocol commands
If by “session” you mean a Chrome DevTools Protocol connection rather than access to the browser’s existing pages, create a CDP session from a page:

await browser.disconnect()detaches Puppeteer and leaves the browser process and its pages running. Use this when you connected to a browser that another process should keep using.await browser.close()closes the browser and its associated pages. Use it only when you intend to end that browser session.
The distinction matters: calling close() ends the browser session you may have meant to preserve. The Puppeteer Browser API documentation covers these browser lifecycle methods.
Troubleshoot connection and page-access problems
- Connection fails or times out: confirm that the browser is running, the WebSocket endpoint is the one supplied by that browser, and the Node.js process can reach its host and port. Do not reuse a sample endpoint’s
<id>as if it were real. - The endpoint is unknown: if the browser exposes the debugging endpoint, inspect
http://HOST:PORT/json/versionand use itswebSocketDebuggerUrlvalue. The host and port must match the running browser’s setup. browser.pages()returns no page you expected: inspectbrowser.browserContexts(), then callcontext.pages()on each context. The page may be in a different context.- The page is present but appears logged out: verify that you have the page in the context holding the relevant cookies and local storage. Browser contexts isolate that state; a separate context will not inherit it.
- The browser shuts down after your script: use
browser.disconnect()for a connection you only want to detach.browser.close()closes the browser and its pages.
