Start waiting for the chooser before triggering it, then accept the file paths you want Puppeteer to select. Pairing the wait and action with Promise.all avoids missing the chooser event:

- Identify the trigger. It may be a visible upload button that activates a hidden file input.
- Register the wait before the trigger.
page.waitForFileChooser()does not return a chooser that is already active. - Wait and trigger together. Use
Promise.allso the wait is registered before the click:

File paths and multiple selections
Puppeteer does not verify that the paths you pass exist, so check them in your test environment. Relative paths resolve from the current working directory; when connecting to remote Chrome, use absolute paths accessible in the relevant environment. fileChooser.isMultiple() tells you whether the page’s input permits multiple selections. Pass the intended files to accept() as an array of paths. See the FileChooser API.
Every chooser should be accepted or canceled. Only one can be open at a time, and an unresolved chooser blocks subsequent choosers.

When to use uploadFile() instead
If a normal <input type="file"> is accessible, you can set its files directly rather than intercepting the user-facing trigger:

Intercept the chooser when the interaction that opens it is part of what you need to test. Puppeteer’s documented chooser interception does not support picker dialogs created through DOM APIs such as window.showOpenFilePicker(); see the Puppeteer input guide.

Timeouts and cancellation
waitForFileChooser() accepts wait options. Puppeteer’s general wait options specify a 30-second default, adjustable through page timeout configuration, and support an abort signal. Set a timeout appropriate to your application and test environment; there is no single task-specific value that fits every page. See WaitTimeoutOptions.
If a chooser is not expected after an action, investigate whether the trigger ran and whether the page actually invoked a supported file-input picker. Do not leave an opened chooser unresolved: accept it with paths or cancel it before proceeding.

Does waitForFileChooser() open the native picker on screen?
In a headful browser, Puppeteer handles the chooser without showing the native picker to the user.

Can chooser interception handle window.showOpenFilePicker()?
No. Puppeteer’s documented chooser interception currently does not support picker dialogs created through DOM APIs such as window.showOpenFilePicker().
