Chrome blocks pop-ups by default. If a trusted site needs one, allow it only for that site; otherwise, keep the blocker on. The setting path differs on desktop, Android, and iPhone or iPad, and site notifications are controlled separately.
Manage pop-ups on a computer
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu) > Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects.
- Choose whether sites can send pop-ups and redirects. Chrome blocks them by default.
To allow a pop-up Chrome has just blocked, select the blocked-pop-up indicator in the address bar. Review the link and choose the option to always allow pop-ups and redirects from that site. Keep exceptions limited to sites you trust. Google notes that not all pop-ups are ads or spam: Chrome Help: Block or allow pop-ups in Chrome — Computer.
Change or remove a site exception
Return to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Find the site in the list of sites allowed to send pop-ups and change its permission to Block. To add an exception, use Add under the not-allowed list. Google gives [*.]example.com as a pattern for a domain and its subdomains.
Manage pop-ups on Android
In Chrome, open More > Settings > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Turn off the setting to block pop-ups and redirects if you want to allow them generally. To allow a single blocked pop-up, return to the page and tap Always show when Chrome displays the prompt. See Google Chrome Help for Android.

Manage pop-ups on iPhone or iPad
In Chrome, open More > Settings > Content Settings > Block Pop-ups, then turn the control on or off. To allow one pop-up, go to the affected page and tap Always show beneath the blocked-pop-up message. See Google Chrome Help for iPhone and iPad.
If messages or pop-ups continue
Check notification permissions
Website notifications are separate from pop-ups. If messages continue after changing the pop-up setting, you may have allowed a site to send notifications. On a computer, use the site information control beside the address bar or Chrome’s site settings to block notifications from that site. Google also identifies previously allowed notifications as a reason communications may continue on Android.

Look for unwanted software
Persistent pop-up ads, unfamiliar redirects, new tabs, or Chrome settings changing without your permission can indicate unwanted software. Do not click a suspicious pop-up that says a program needs an update or download; go to the program’s official website instead. Google’s guidance is at Remove unwanted ads, pop-ups & malware.
Close an inescapable dialogue on iPhone or iPad
If a page dialogue prevents you from using Chrome, Google advises turning on airplane mode, closing Chrome, then closing the affected tab.

Check whether the device is managed
On a work or school Chrome device, an administrator may control the pop-up setting. If the setting cannot be changed, ask your network administrator.
