A compact tool earns its place in a backpack when it solves a likely small job without making the bag cumbersome. These 14 options range from an electric screwdriver and measuring tools to lights, a tire inflator, and a multitool. Their specifications below are reported by SlashGear unless otherwise noted; compact tools are best treated as backups for light repairs, not replacements for full-size workshop equipment.
How to choose a backpack-sized tool
Start with the repair you actually expect to make. A screwdriver kit helps with loose screws; a caliper or laser meter answers a measurement question; a pickup tool reaches into a gap. A single-purpose tool may do its one job well, while a multitool saves space by combining functions. In either case, miniaturization has a cost: less reach, leverage, runtime, or confidence in measurement. Consider battery and venue rules before packing anything for a commute or trip.
Tools for quick fixes and adjustments
1. HOTO 25-piece electric screwdriver kit
For flat-pack furniture and routine household fixes, this compact case includes an electric screwdriver, 24 standard S2 bits, an extended Phillips bit, and a 60 mm extension rod. SlashGear reports three torque settings, up to 4 Nm of electric torque and up to 8 Nm manually, plus USB-C charging and a built-in light. It is for driving screws, not drilling holes or replacing a drill.
2. Gerber Suspension-NXT multitool
SlashGear describes 15 functions, including spring-loaded pliers, a wire stripper, cutters, screwdrivers, scissors, and a partially serrated blade. The folding design consolidates several tools in one item, and the article reports that the tools lock open. Short handles provide less leverage than full-size pliers or screwdrivers, so it is better suited to modest adjustments than stubborn fasteners.

4. Workpro mini adjustable wrench
SlashGear reports a four-inch length, 3.17-ounce weight, and jaws that open to 24 mm. That compact size can help with small fittings in tight spaces, but it reduces leverage. It is not a good choice for rusty plumbing or stubborn automotive hardware.
Tools for measuring and alignment
5. Hardell digital caliper
The caliper measures outside and inside dimensions as well as depth, switches between inches and millimeters, and uses an LR44 battery, according to SlashGear. The article reports a claimed accuracy of ±0.02 mm; treat that as a product claim, not proof that this is a certified metrology instrument. It can be handy for informal comparisons and small parts, but not where traceable measurement is required.

10. BIIB extendable magnetic pickup tool
SlashGear reports that this tool measures 7.4 inches collapsed and 23.6 inches extended, with a flexible neck, LEDs, a magnetic tip, and a magnetic base. It can help retrieve small ferrous objects from a narrow gap. It will not pick up nonmagnetic materials such as aluminum or plastic.
Tools for tires and electronics

12. Wolfbox MF100 compressed air duster
For keyboards and computer equipment, SlashGear reports three speed settings, five nozzles, two brushes, USB-C charging, and a weight of 0.66 pounds. The trade-offs are noise and reports of shorter battery sessions at high speed. Keep the nozzle at a safe distance from delicate parts rather than directing a close, forceful stream into them.

13. UAG Monarch carabiner
This is primarily a protective AirTag holder with a locking carabiner and bottle opener, not a general-purpose hand tool. Its larger, heavier form favors a rugged attachment and secondary opener over low-profile carry.
14. Civivi Mini Praxis folding knife
A compact folding knife can help open packages or cut cord, but carry legality depends on jurisdiction and venue rules. Knives are unsuitable for carry-on luggage and are barred from many secured venues. Check current local law and the rules for your destination before deciding to carry one.

Check travel rules before packing powered tools
For air travel, the FAA says the safest and most recommended way to travel with a power tool is to remove its battery, pack the battery in carry-on baggage, and check the tool. Rules can depend on the exact item, airline, and destination, so verify current requirements before departure. The FAA’s guidance is at PackSafe – Power Tools.
Pick by the job, not the gadget count
For common home fixes, a screwdriver kit or multitool is more useful than carrying a collection of specialized gear. For measuring, choose a caliper for small dimensions and a laser meter for room-scale estimates; neither replaces every use of a tape measure. For a vehicle or cycling emergency bag, an inflator may justify its added bulk. Lights and a magnetic pickup tool solve narrow problems with little setup, while the knife and powered devices require particular attention to travel and venue restrictions.
