Where the Minooka data center is being built
The Village places the main Equinix campus at the northeast corner of Ridge Road and Holt Road, north of Minooka. Its transparency portal describes the principal site as approximately 310 acres. The Village also says about 55 acres at the southwest corner of Holt Road and Wabena Avenue were annexed as part of the development.
The acreage figures describe the principal site and additional annexed land; they should not be read as a single exact construction footprint.
Is construction underway, and when will it be finished?
The Village’s portal labels the campus as currently under construction. A Village data-center FAQ and fact sheet posted July 30, 2026, calls the project approved. The materials reviewed do not give a completion date or a detailed current construction schedule.

What the Village says the project may contribute
The Village’s 2026 fact sheet lists the following employment, revenue and contribution figures. They are project expectations or stated contributions, not confirmed results already delivered.

What is known about water and electricity
Water use
The Village fact sheet characterizes the facility as not being a large water user and compares expected use with an office building or neighborhood developed on the same site. The reviewed materials do not give an independent numerical estimate of the campus’s water demand, so the Village’s comparison is not a verified technical measurement.
Electricity and grid capacity
The fact sheet summarizes comments from ComEd at an Equinix open house, saying that regional supply and demand affect the grid and that ComEd studies found sufficient capacity for this specific project. That is the Village fact sheet’s account of ComEd’s explanation, not a ComEd study reviewed here. It does not establish that future electric bills or outages will remain unchanged.

What the noise study modeled
Shen Milsom & Wilke’s acoustic evaluation, dated September 3, 2025, assessed planned equipment with specified sound mitigation. Its results are modeled predictions, not measurements of an operating campus. The consultant concluded that the modeled sound would comply with Illinois noise regulations at existing residential uses and most property lines, while identifying a limited area on the north property line where a worst-case nighttime scenario could exceed the stated limit.
Nighttime boundary scenario
For the limited north-boundary area, the letter predicts up to 45–46 dBA against the report’s stated nighttime limit of 44 dBA under worst-case conditions. The consultant says there are no current residences at those locations and describes possible supplemental mitigation. The report does not establish what sound levels will be measured once the campus operates.

Chiller operation and generator testing
The model includes all 336 chillers operating. A separate scenario adds three generators to the chillers to represent periodic testing. In that modeled daytime testing scenario, the report predicts 55 dBA or less at property lines, within the daytime noise-code limit. The consultant describes the chillers as continuous operations; emergency generator operation during a full power failure would be rare, while testing would occur periodically.
Pre-project ambient measurements
The consultant says it measured ambient sound on June 5–6, 2025, using a 24-hour monitor at an Equinix-owned residential property and additional short-term locations. The report notes contributions from highway and local vehicle traffic, a power plant and occasional aircraft. Those measurements describe pre-project ambient sound; they are distinct from the modeled sound attributed to planned campus equipment.

The Village transparency portal links public project materials, including the annexation agreement, sound study, renderings, fact sheet, public-meeting materials and air-monitoring reports. The Village says it updates the portal as information and milestones become available.
The portal lists weekly air-monitoring reports beginning in mid-June 2026, with reports covering periods through September 14, 2026. The linked report dated September 14, 2026 includes station and category information, but the available copy does not show a clear extractable series of dated numerical readings. The posted reports are a place to check for updates; the available material does not support a conclusion here about whether the project has caused a particular air-quality effect.
