CML Micro has announced the CMX90A002, a compact power amplifier intended for next-generation ISM-band and sub-GHz wireless designs. Launch coverage describes a 3 × 3 mm footprint and positions the part as a possible booster amplifier for extending the range of sub-GHz radios, but no measured range improvement or complete device datasheet is available in the cited coverage.
What CML Micro says the CMX90A002 is for
The CMX90A002 is presented as a power amplifier for compact sub-GHz wireless products, including next-generation ISM-band designs. CML Micro frames the device around two design pressures: accommodating different power architectures and reducing board space while maintaining RF performance. That framing comes from the company’s product announcement, not an independent performance test. Embedded Computing Design reported the announcement on October 2, 2026; Microwave Journal also covered the launch in October 2026.
Rob Smith, CML Micro’s Product Line Director for RF and mmWave Compound Semiconductors, said: “Customers developing next-generation ISM-band products increasingly need to support different power architectures while reducing board space and maintaining reliable RF performance,” as quoted by Embedded Computing Design. This explains the intended design context; it does not establish measured output, linearity, range, or reliability for the CMX90A002.
What is known about size and supply voltage
Launch coverage gives the amplifier a 3 × 3 mm footprint. That is useful as an initial board-space reference, but the available coverage does not establish the package type, land pattern, required matching components, or full keep-out and thermal requirements.

A 1.9 V to 4.5 V supply range was reported in earlier CML Micro portfolio-preview coverage, rather than in a located CMX90A002 datasheet. Treat it as preliminary preview information, not a verified recommended operating range or final limit. Confirm it against the current manufacturer datasheet before designing a power rail around it.
Can it extend the range of a sub-GHz radio?
CML Micro’s positioning, echoed in launch coverage, is that the part can act as a booster amplifier to extend a radio’s range. An amplifier can increase the transmitter’s RF output, but the resulting system range depends on more than amplifier gain: radio and antenna performance, receiver sensitivity, modulation and data rate, matching and losses, interference, and legal transmit-power limits all matter.

The cited announcement coverage provides no measured range improvement, link budget, or system test results for the CMX90A002. Therefore, it is not possible to quantify how far a product using it would communicate or to conclude that it will extend range in a particular installation. Any final design also needs to meet the applicable radio regulations and certification requirements for its market.
How it compares with other CML Micro sub-GHz amplifiers
CML Micro’s SμRF amplifier catalog lists several other parts that may be relevant to a design search. Their specifications are not substitutes for the CMX90A002 specification: the models below have different bands, power metrics, supply needs, and packages. Figures in the table are catalog values for those adjacent models, with the catalog accessed in 2026. Consult CML Micro’s catalog and the current individual datasheets before selecting a part.

Saturated output power and P1dB are different measurements, so the power figures are not a like-for-like ranking. Catalog details for current consumption, linearity beyond the listed metric, matching, thermal limits, and required external components should be checked in each product’s datasheet. The available launch coverage does not provide equivalent CMX90A002 values, so a direct numerical comparison with that new part is not yet possible.

The announcement is enough to identify the device’s intended role, but not enough to complete a production design or confirm a purchase. Ask CML Micro or an authorized component distributor for the current datasheet and status, then check the following against the intended radio and market:

- System-level output limits and applicable regional compliance requirements.
The report said the CMX90A002 would be demonstrated at European Microwave Week 2026, Stand B30A. That is an event detail, not confirmation that the part is subsequently orderable or stocked. No verified ordering code, evaluation board, pricing, or distributor availability is established in the cited coverage.
