The Minnesota Vikings entered their scheduled Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins at 3-0, while Miami arrived at 0-3. But the teams’ coaches said they were preparing for the matchup itself, not treating those records as a verdict. The game was scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, with a 3:05 p.m. CDT kickoff on FOX, according to the Vikings’ official game center.
Can Minnesota overlook Miami because of the records?
The records made Minnesota the clear early-season success story: the Vikings had beaten Green Bay, Chicago and Tampa Bay in consecutive weeks, while Miami had lost to Las Vegas, San Francisco and Kansas City. In its Oct. 1, 2026 preview, Field Level Media described Minnesota as one of five remaining unbeaten teams. Those are pregame records through three games, not a forecast of the Week 4 result.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said the team was not using its record as a reason to relax: “I know for us, our record means absolutely nothing to us, and we’re preparing accordingly for a good, young team.” The remark was reported by Field Level Media in its Oct. 1 preview.
Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley framed the opening schedule as a challenge that had given younger players experience against strong opponents. Field Level Media reported his comment: “We’re playing really good teams; it makes it challenging,”

What the early-season numbers suggested
Field Level Media’s Oct. 1, 2026 preview reported a pronounced difference in pass-rush production through the first three games: Minnesota had 14 sacks and Miami had none. The same report credited Vikings edge rusher Dallas Turner with 3.5 sacks over that span. These are three-game figures reported before Week 4, not full-season totals.
The preview also reported that Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis had completed 57% of his passes for 627 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, for a 74.1 passer rating through the first three games. That snapshot offered context for the matchup; it does not establish how either offense would perform in this game.

Who was available for Week 4?
The NFL’s official Week 4 injury report listed Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson as out. That designation superseded the Oct. 1 preview’s earlier description of his status as uncertain after he left the prior game with an ankle sprain and missed Wednesday practice.
The official report also listed Vikings cornerback Charles Demmings and punter Brett Thorson as out. For Miami, linebacker Robert Beal Jr., wide receiver Caleb Douglas and cornerback Storm Duck were listed out.
