Faizullaganj remained waterlogged after rainfall eased because, according to an October 2 Hindustan Times report, the Gomti was still elevated and drains were choked. Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar described the riverside area as a natural catchment where river water enters, and said an embankment would be needed to address the problem permanently. Reports on October 3 and 4 showed flooding and relief efforts continuing, but the available accounts do not establish a current affected-household total or when residents could safely return.
Why did flooding continue after the rain eased?
The October 2 Hindustan Times report linked prolonged waterlogging to elevated Gomti levels and choked drains. It also said drain water was entering the river and cited heavy rain in Pilibhit, Bareilly and Hardoi as contributing conditions. Those are explanations reported by the outlet, not independently verified hydrological findings.
The same report said Lucknow recorded 849.3 mm of rainfall between June 1 and September 30, 2026, citing Met department data. That seasonal total provides context for the episode, but it is not a measurement of rainfall in Faizullaganj after the rain eased.
Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar told Hindustan Times: “Faizullaganj is a catchment area, where river water comes in naturally. Until an embankment is constructed, the problem cannot be resolved permanently.” His statement describes the local authority’s view of the area and the proposed long-term remedy.

What residents were facing
Hindustan Times reported on October 2 that more than 200 houses were submerged and 15–16 colonies inundated. Those figures apply to that report’s account on that date; later coverage documents continuing flooding and relief activity, not a directly comparable updated count.
The reports described residents moving by boat, leaving homes, or staying behind to protect their property. Hindustan Times quoted resident Abdul Hadi saying he and others were guarding their homes at night because they feared theft. He also said that, despite calls to the district magistrate’s CUG number, no authorities had visited his portion and no relief work had been done there. That is his account of his locality; it should be read alongside reports of relief measures elsewhere, not as a claim that every household had the same experience.

Electricity loss was among the disruptions reported. The accounts establish serious impacts on residents, but do not give a verified date for safe returns or a reliable current count of affected households.
What relief was reported—and what remains unclear
Relief measures described across the October 2–4 reports included temporary shelters, boats, extra lighting, anti-larval spraying and fogging, teams on 24-hour duty, water tankers, a medical camp, and dry-ration kits delivered by boat. On October 4, Amar Ujala reported that the district magistrate visited by boat, distributed dry-ration kits, spoke with affected families, and directed continued monitoring and relief.

These reports describe arrangements and actions; they do not establish that every affected household received supplies, had access to shelter or medical care, or had all its needs met. Nor do they establish that relief access was uniform across the inundated area.

No approval or construction start is established in the available reports. The Times of India reported on October 4 that the Lucknow Development Authority had sent a proposed ₹182 crore embankment and road project for approval. That is a proposal, not confirmation of final approval, release of funds, or a construction timetable. Hindustan Times had described the embankment as part of the LDA’s Green Corridor plan.

The distinction matters: boats, shelters, supplies and other measures address immediate needs, while an embankment is presented by the municipal commissioner as a permanent response. The reports document the proposal but do not show whether or when it will be delivered.
