Activision has not confirmed a Halo reboot. A report published October 2, 2026, by Gameranx says an unnamed source told Rebs Gaming that Activision was considering a full reset focused on Master Chief’s origins, but the source reportedly warned that plans were still early and unsettled. A GamingBolt article the next day repeated the claim; it is not independent confirmation.
What the full-reboot rumor says
Gameranx attributes the possibility of a full Halo reboot to Rebs Gaming, which cited an unnamed source. In that account, Activision was considering a reset centered on Master Chief’s origins. The report does not establish that Activision selected this direction, and the source reportedly said it was too early for plans to be settled. Read Gameranx’s October 2, 2026 report.
GamingBolt covered the same underlying claim on October 3, 2026. Its article adds context about reported project concepts, but it traces those claims to Rebs Gaming rather than providing separate corroboration. Read GamingBolt’s report.
How the reported full reboot differs from an earlier soft-reboot idea
The reports describe two possible directions at different stages, not a confirmed choice between them. GamingBolt says an earlier campaign concept would have skipped Halo Infinite while keeping older Halo games in continuity. That would be a narrower continuity change than the later-reported possibility of a full reset.

| Reported idea | Continuity scope | Master Chief’s origins | Status in the reports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earlier soft-reboot concept | Would reportedly skip Halo Infinite while retaining older canon. | Not stated in GamingBolt’s account. | Described as an earlier concept, not a selected plan. |
| Later full-reboot possibility | Reported as a broader reset; the precise canon changes are not stated. | Reportedly centered on his origins. | Attributed to Rebs Gaming’s unnamed source, who reportedly said plans were early and unsettled. |
These descriptions do not reveal whether Halo Infinite would be erased from continuity in a final project, or what other games or story events might remain canon. Neither account establishes a final story plan.
What is reported about development—and what remains unknown
Gameranx says Sledgehammer Games had worked on concepts and gameplay prototypes for both a multiplayer project and a story campaign, using Infinity Ward’s engine. GamingBolt says Activision had earlier considered separate free-to-play multiplayer and campaign-only projects before shifting toward a combined package. These are reported details, not official confirmation of the studio, engine, or final structure.

GamingBolt quotes Activision president Rob Kostich as saying: “For Halo, our goal is clear: make the greatest Halo game ever, worthy of its universe and legacy, while staying true to what made players love it in the first place.” That statement expresses an ambition for a Halo game; it does not confirm a reboot, identify a continuity plan, or settle whether Master Chief’s origins will be retold.
