To track a target price, open the exact product listing in a retailer or shopping service that supports price alerts, select the correct variant, set a realistic threshold if offered, and enable notifications. When an alert arrives, revisit the live listing and verify the seller, shipping, stock, and total price before buying: a deal alert is a prompt to check an offer, not proof it is the best available price.

Choose a tracker based on where you shop

Start with the retailer or shopping platform where the item is listed. Native tools are usually the simplest way to track a product already in that ecosystem; Amazon-focused services are alternatives for Amazon listings.

Tool Coverage and history Targets and alerts Availability notes
Amazon Alexa for Shopping Amazon product pages; documented history views cover 30, 90, and 365 days. Amazon documents target-price alerts and an optional Auto-Buy feature. Amazon says price history is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India. At the time its page was checked, 365-day views were rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India. See Amazon’s price-history information.
Google Shopping Products shown in Google Shopping. Signed-in users can track a product, optionally set a target price, and receive push notifications and email when the price drops below it. Google lists the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and India, and notes that not all features appear on every device or Google surface. See Google’s price-tracking help.
Chrome Shopping Insights Eligible products across the web; can show price history and a price range, including variant details such as color or storage capacity. Check the available Shopping Insights or track-price controls on the product page. Google lists Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and the U.S. Requirements include Google sign-in, tab and history sync, and opting in. See Chrome Shopping Insights help.
Keepa Amazon-focused price-history charts. Advertises price-drop alerts. Its cited page does not establish a comparable history window or independently verified alert performance. Keepa says it tracks over 7 billion Amazon products; that is the provider’s own coverage claim. See Keepa.
CamelCamelCamel Amazon-focused price history. Email price watches; also offers the Camelizer browser extension. Its cited page does not establish a comparable history window or independently verified alert performance. See CamelCamelCamel.

Amazon says more than 50 million customers had checked its price-history feature since launch in 2024, and that the average customer checks it three times a month. These are figures reported by Amazon, not independent measurements of savings. No independent study in the cited sources establishes a particular amount or percentage shoppers save with price trackers.

Set up a price watch without tracking the wrong item

  1. Find the exact listing. Confirm the product model and variant—such as size, color, storage capacity, or configuration—before starting a watch.
  2. Check the history or price range. On an eligible Amazon listing, open the price-history link or ask Alexa for Shopping about the product’s history. Amazon documents 30-, 90-, and 365-day views, subject to availability in your country and account.
  3. Start tracking in Google Shopping. Sign in, open the product card, select Track price, choose the relevant variant if prompted, optionally enter a target price, and confirm. Google says it can send push notifications through the Google app and email when the price drops below your target.
  4. Check Chrome’s product-page controls if useful. Look for Shopping Insights or track-price controls on eligible web products. If they are missing, check whether you are in a supported country, signed in, syncing tabs and history, and opted in.
  5. For Amazon-only tracking, compare the workflows. Keepa advertises Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts; CamelCamelCamel offers Amazon price history, email watches, and the Camelizer extension. The cited pages do not establish which sends alerts faster or which has more accurate histories.
  6. Review the listing when notified. Open the retailer page again and check that the item and variant still match, then verify seller, shipping, stock, and current total. Prices can change after an alert is generated.

Understand target alerts and automatic buying

A target price is a threshold for a notification, not a guarantee that the item will remain available at that price. Google documents optional target prices and push and email alerts for qualifying drops. Amazon also documents target-price alerts, but its optional Auto-Buy goes further: when the threshold is met, it can complete a purchase using your default payment method. Enable it only if you intend to authorize an automatic purchase; an alert alone lets you inspect the offer first. Details are in Amazon’s price-history information.

Check availability and notification settings

Features vary by country, device, account, and product surface. Amazon’s stated price-history countries are the U.S., UK, Canada, and India; its cited page said 365-day views were rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India when checked. Google Shopping lists the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and India, while warning that not every feature is present on every device or Google surface. Chrome Shopping Insights lists Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and the U.S., and requires sign-in, tab and history sync, and opt-in. Check the relevant official help page if a control is missing or notification delivery differs from what you expect.

When an alert is not enough

  • It may not be the best available offer. Compare the current seller, shipping charges, stock, and total price; a badge or notification is only a reason to inspect the listing.
  • The tracked variant may not match. Reopen the product card or listing and verify the precise size, color, capacity, or model.
  • The feature may not be available to you. Check the service’s supported countries, sign-in status, device or surface, and any sync or opt-in requirements.
  • Do not assume a service is faster or more accurate. The cited provider pages establish that histories and alerts are offered, but not comparative alert latency or independent accuracy.

Or skip the browser setup

For developers who need a screenshot of a product page or deal listing, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is not a price tracker and does not send deal alerts; it can capture the listing so an app or workflow can inspect it. One GET request returns an image or PDF:
