Set up a Distill monitor for a product

Open the product’s own page
Visit the retailer’s page for the exact item you want to follow. Distill defines a monitor as one webpage with a unique URL, so a product page is usually more useful than search results that mix items, prices or availability messages. See Distill’s monitor documentation.

Select the price or availability area
In the Distill browser extension, open the Distill menu and choose to monitor either the full page or part of it. For a price alert, select just the price if possible; for restocks, select the visible stock message or purchase control. Check the selection in the preview and save it. Narrow selections reduce unrelated changes, but retailer layouts vary, and some indicators may not be accessible or stable enough to monitor. Instructions are in Distill’s page-monitoring guide.

Choose local or cloud checks
A local monitor checks from your browser or computer, so that device must remain available. A cloud monitor checks from Distill’s servers and can continue while your computer is off. Distill’s documentation lists a 5-second minimum interval for browser add-ons and a 2-minute minimum for the web app’s Flexi plan. These are documented minima for those contexts, not guarantees for every plan; check your account’s current limits before depending on a specific schedule. Cloud requests may also be blocked by some websites; proxy features or plan access may apply, but a proxy is not a guaranteed fix. Set a price threshold
Add a condition that compares the changed price with your target. Distill’s example is to alert when an $80 item falls below $70. Keep the selection limited to the price: if it also contains the rating or review count, numeric conditions can evaluate those numbers independently and produce unexpected alerts. Configure a restock condition and alert
For availability, set a condition around a newly appearing stock phrase or a change in the selected availability area, then choose an alert action. A keyword already present on the page is not a new change and does not, by itself, trigger an alert. Distill lists email, SMS, push notifications, Discord, Slack, Microsoft Teams and webhook-based integrations; availability of particular actions can depend on the subscription plan. Check history and fix missed or noisy alerts
Distill records detected changes in change history. If alerts are too frequent, narrow the selected area or refine the conditions. If an expected alert does not arrive, check whether the monitored content actually changed and whether the configured condition passed. A restock watch depends on the retailer exposing a detectable page change; a static or inaccessible stock indicator may not trigger it.

- The monitor changes too often: select only the price or availability text and review conditions for unrelated numbers or page content.
- The product appears in stock, but no alert arrived: inspect the page’s change history and selection. Confirm that the status changed after monitoring began; an already-present keyword is not a change.
- Checks stop when you close the browser or computer: the monitor is local. Use a cloud monitor if checks must run while your device is off.
- A cloud monitor cannot read the page: the site may be blocking cloud requests. Distill documents proxy features and plan access, but these do not ensure access on every site.
- You expected a phone to run checks: Distill’s phone apps display updates and push notifications, but monitors do not run on the phone itself. See Distill’s mobile-app documentation.

Can Distill guarantee an alert whenever a product is restocked?
No. It can alert when monitored page content changes and configured conditions pass, but retailer pages may not expose a detectable availability change.
