If a Distill monitor detects a change but your Android phone shows no alert, first check that the monitor has a Push Notification action and that the Distill Android app is signed in and allowed to send notifications. The Chrome extension and Android app are separate products: Distill’s documentation describes its Chrome extension as a browser extension, not an extension that runs inside Chrome for Android. There is no India-specific cause established in the available documentation.
First identify which notification is missing
“Chrome notifications” can mean three different things. Distinguishing them points you to the right setting instead of changing unrelated permissions.
- Distill app push: An alert sent to the Distill Android app. This is the documented mobile route for receiving push notifications.
- Desktop extension alert: An alert shown by Distill’s browser extension on the computer where it runs. Distill says its Chrome extension relies on that device’s browser to make checks.
- Chrome website notification: An alert from a website in Android Chrome, controlled by Chrome’s site notification permissions. It is not the same as a Distill app push.
Distill lists browser extensions and Android and iOS apps as separate platforms. Its documentation does not describe installing or running the desktop Chrome extension inside Chrome for Android. If you set up a monitor on a computer and expect an alert on your phone, verify the monitor’s push action and the phone app rather than assuming the desktop extension itself will forward an alert.
Check the monitor’s alert action
- Open the affected monitor in Distill and go to its options.
- Open Actions and confirm that Push Notification is configured. Distill’s Chrome extension guide explains that users add actions to monitors and that available alert methods can depend on the subscription plan.
- Wait for a check that should trigger an alert, then inspect the monitor’s action log. A detected change alone does not prove that a push notification was sent.
If the log shows no notification action, focus on the monitor’s action configuration and the alert methods available on your plan. An upgrade is not a reliable fix for a phone or app delivery problem if the action was already recorded.

Check the Distill app and Android notification permission
- Make sure the Distill app is installed and signed in to the account associated with the monitor.
- In Android’s system settings, find the Distill app and confirm that notifications are allowed. Android menu names and locations vary by device and software version, so use your phone’s Settings search if needed.
- If the app is signed in but not receiving alerts, try signing out and back in. Distill support also suggests updating or reinstalling the app when basic checks do not resolve the issue.
Run the app’s test notification
- In the Distill Android app, open the menu, then Settings, and select Test Notification.
- Note whether the app reports that the test succeeded.
- Check whether an alert actually appears on the phone.
A reported success with no visible alert helps separate the app’s test request from notification display or delivery on the device. If the test arrives but monitor alerts do not, return to the monitor’s action log and confirm that the relevant monitor is configured to send push notifications.
Check Chrome only if you mean a website notification
If the expected alert is from a website in Android Chrome—not from the Distill app—review Chrome’s Site settings → Notifications and the permission for that individual site. Test in a normal browsing session, not private browsing: Google says Chrome notifications are not received in private browsing. Chrome may also remove a site’s permission if you have not visited it for a while.

Understand local and cloud monitors

Changing a monitor from local to cloud is not, by itself, a fix for a missing phone push. First establish whether the monitor ran and whether its action log records the push action.
Use the action log to narrow down the failure
- No change or check recorded: Check whether the monitor ran and, for a local monitor, whether the relevant browser was open.
- Change detected, but no push action recorded: Review the monitor’s Actions configuration and available alert methods.
- Push action recorded, but no phone alert: Focus on the app’s sign-in, Android notification permission, and the test-notification result.
- Test notification fails or the issue persists: Contact Distill support for account-specific investigation.
If the problem persists, give support useful evidence
When contacting Distill support, include the account email, Android device and app details, whether the Test Notification reports success, whether an alert appears on the device, and what the affected monitor’s action log shows. Distill support has referred persistent cases for account-level review. Support reports in 2026 show that some individual cases can persist after basic checks, but they do not establish a broad current outage.
