Castr: scheduled and looping broadcasts
Castr documents MP4 uploads, scheduled one-time or looping broadcasts, and delivery to YouTube and other destinations from its cloud, without requiring a local encoder. Infinite looping is described as available on Premium and higher, but check Castr’s current plan matrix for that entitlement and for storage, playlist, concurrent-stream, duration, and destination limits. For YouTube connection, Castr documents either API connection or entering YouTube’s streaming server and key. With the key method, its instructions say to edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard.

StreamYard: automatic scheduled events with format and feature limits
StreamYard says a scheduled prerecorded stream starts at the selected time and ends when the video finishes. Its help documentation specifies MP4 with H.264 video, paid-plan output up to 1080p, and an upload bitrate ceiling of 10 Mbps; duration, upload size, and simultaneous scheduled streams depend on plan. Automatic prerecorded streams do not support studio overlays or displaying comments on-stream, and are no longer automatically saved to the StreamYard library. If you need overlays, an intro or outro, or a studio-led presentation, StreamYard recommends a regular studio workflow in which you start the broadcast and play the video as long-form media. Check the current plan limits before scheduling.
Restream Upload & Stream: scheduled files and playlists
Restream documents uploading a recording to its storage or importing one through Descript, Google Drive, or Dropbox, then scheduling it as a live event. Its help article supports a single video or playlist and says a scheduled video can loop up to 10 times. The documentation does not establish every current plan or destination limit, so verify those details and ensure the scheduled-event model suits your use case.

Keep an encoder workflow: choose a YouTube ingest protocol
YouTube’s protocol comparison, last updated 2026-09-14 UTC, lists RTMP, RTMPS, HLS, and DASH for third-party ingestion. Protocol affects encryption, codec support, and latency. YouTube describes RTMP and RTMPS as suitable for normal, low, or ultra-low latency; RTMPS encrypts the ingest connection. HLS supports H.264 and HEVC, while DASH supports H.264 and VP9. YouTube describes HLS and DASH as better suited to 4K and other high-resolution use cases, but not ultra-low latency; their segment-based delivery typically adds more latency than RTMP.

If you keep a self-managed pipeline, your encoder and workflow must support the protocol you select. Follow the endpoint and application path supplied for the YouTube event, and treat the stream key as a secret: do not publish it or include it in screenshots or shared configuration.

What to verify before scheduling a recording
- File compatibility: confirm accepted container and codecs. StreamYard’s documented automatic workflow requires MP4 with H.264 video; do not assume another service has the same requirements.
- Duration and file size: check limits for the specific plan, including any playlist-wide or per-file limits.
- Looping and schedule behavior: determine whether the service supports continuous looping or only a finite number of plays, and whether events start and stop automatically.
- Destination and stream setup: confirm YouTube is supported for the selected workflow, connect the correct channel, and use the required stream key or authorized account connection.
- Presentation needs: check whether you need overlays, on-screen comments, a live studio host, or an automatically archived recording. These differ by workflow.
- Rights and YouTube policies: use content you have permission to broadcast and review YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules. Permission to use a song or video does not by itself guarantee monetization eligibility; assess whether the channel adds sufficient original value rather than relying on repetitive reused material.

Common decision problems
The service will not accept the video
Check the container, video codec, file size, and duration against the chosen service’s current documentation and plan. For StreamYard automatic prerecorded streaming, the documented format is MP4 with H.264 video; its size and duration limits vary by plan.
The recording starts, but the presentation is missing overlays or comments
That is a limitation of StreamYard’s automatic prerecorded mode. Use its regular studio workflow and start the broadcast yourself if overlays or showing comments on-stream are required.
A Castr stream key connection has the wrong description
Castr’s key-based connection instructions say to edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard. Check the YouTube event settings rather than assuming the description is updated through the key.
An RTMPS encoder cannot connect
Verify the URL uses the rtmps protocol, includes the valid ingestion endpoint and application path, and uses port 443, as YouTube specifies. Also confirm the selected encoder supports the endpoint format.
A playlist or loop ends sooner than expected
Check the service’s loop semantics and plan limits. Restream documents looping a scheduled video up to 10 times; Castr describes infinite looping on Premium and higher, subject to confirmation against its current plan matrix. A finite playlist or scheduled-event end condition is not the same as an always-on loop.
