If a Distill.io email alert never arrived, trace the alert from the beginning: check that the monitor ran, confirm it detected a change, inspect its conditions, verify the email action and recipient, then check quotas and delivery. A failure at any earlier step can prevent an email from being generated at all.
1. Confirm that the monitor ran
Open the monitor’s Check Log and look for a recent check. If there is no recent entry, troubleshoot the monitor before changing email settings. Distill’s missing-alert guide recommends checking the log as the first step: Distill’s missing-alert troubleshooting guide.
- If the log says it is available on the device running the monitor, it is a local monitor. The device must be on and local monitoring active.
- Make sure the monitor is turned on. If needed, enable local monitoring on the device that runs it.
Resolve check errors first
Open an error’s details and inspect the captured snapshot. Distill documents SELECTION_EMPTY when selected page elements are missing or load too late. Review the selection and adjust the page wait or delay where appropriate. Access errors may mean the page requires authentication or blocks cloud access; configure login as needed or try local monitoring when appropriate. Until the check works, an email delivery change will not fix the missing alert.
2. Check whether Distill detected the change
Open Change History for the monitor. If there is no recorded change, Distill has no change alert to send. A page looking different in your browser does not necessarily mean the monitored content changed from Distill’s perspective.

- Check that the selected region includes the content that changed.
- Consider whether the content loads after the monitor’s check; adjust timing if necessary.
- If the page requires a signed-in session, confirm that the monitor still has access.
If Change History has no change entry, fix the selection, timing, or access problem before investigating your inbox.
3. Inspect alert conditions
Distill first detects a change and then evaluates configured conditions. A detected change that does not satisfy a local or global condition will not trigger an alert. Open the Condition Debugger to see how the conditions evaluated, then test or refine any condition that is filtering out the change. Distill explains the two-stage process in Optimizing Alerts with Conditions: “Alerts are sent only when both steps succeed.”

4. Verify the email action and address
In the monitor’s Options, confirm that an Email action is configured and that it targets the address you expect. Also check whether applicable global actions affect the monitor. Distill’s instructions for configuring alert channels are in its alert actions documentation.
If you added another email address, verify it before expecting alerts at that address. Distill’s documented alert-channel setup includes recipient verification for additional email addresses.

5. Check usage and plan limits
Review your account’s current usage and quota. Distill identifies exhausted monthly resources as a reason checks and alerts may stop, and its channel guidance also calls out email quota or plan limits. Check the account’s current limits rather than assuming that a missing message means the mail system failed.
6. Distinguish an alert-generation problem from email delivery
Use the monitor log, Change History, condition results, and action settings to locate where the chain stopped:

If the change and alert status appear correctly but the email is absent, check the recipient and action again, then review quota. If those are all correct, contact Distill support with the monitor’s Check Log and alert history. Only Distill can investigate account-specific service state; its public documentation cannot establish what happened in an individual inbox.
7. Consider another alert channel if appropriate
Distill lists email, SMS, mobile push, Discord, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and webhook-connected apps as alert channels. The best diagnostic comparison is whether the problem affects email alone or every action configured for that monitor. Channel availability can depend on plan eligibility and verification requirements; SMS is a paid feature and requires phone verification. Local monitors also depend on the device running them, while cloud monitors run on Distill’s service. See Distill’s alert-channel documentation for the applicable setup details.
