Distill.io can monitor pages that require a login, but whether it is appropriate depends on where the check runs. Local monitoring runs in your browser or on your device; cloud monitoring runs on Distill’s infrastructure and can preserve browser data such as cookies and local storage. For sensitive accounts, local monitoring is the more conservative documented choice. Distill’s public materials reviewed here do not specify the safeguards for saved cloud-monitor session data, so they do not support a blanket assurance either way.
How Distill handles logged-in pages
Distill supports monitoring pages that require authentication. The key privacy distinction is the execution location: local checks use your browser or machine, while cloud checks use Distill’s servers. A local browser can use its existing active session; cloud features can retain browser state so a hosted browser can access the page.
Local monitoring
With a browser extension or desktop app, checks run in your own environment. Distill identifies login-required pages as a local-monitor use case because the browser maintains the active session. Your browser or device needs to be available for checks to run. The documented execution model avoids placing the page’s session cookies in Distill’s cloud browser, but it does not establish that all account, monitor, or alert metadata stays local. Cloud monitoring
Cloud checks run on Distill’s infrastructure, so they can continue while your own device is off. Distill’s Cloud Profiles and Dedicated Cloud Devices preserve browser data, including cookies; Dedicated Cloud Devices also preserve local storage. This lets a hosted browser maintain access to authorized content, but it also means live session material is held in a remote browser hosted by Distill. Distill’s Dedicated Cloud Devices documentation describes the devices and includes a Clear Device Data control.

What Distill’s public privacy information establishes
Distill’s privacy policy describes collection of service-usage and log information, including IP addresses and information collected through cookies or similar technologies. It also describes technical, organizational, and administrative security measures and says that “no company or service can guarantee complete security.” The policy says information may be kept while a customer uses the services and for a period afterward, or as needed for stated purposes and legal obligations.
The reviewed public policy and device documentation do not specify how saved monitor-session cookies or Dedicated Cloud Device browser data are encrypted, who can access them, their specific retention period, or how deletion works after account closure. The Clear Device Data control is useful for clearing device state, but by itself it does not establish retention or backup behavior elsewhere in the service.

For a highly sensitive account, use a local monitor when its browser-based workflow meets your needs. Cloud monitoring may be more convenient when checks must continue with your device off, but make that choice with the understanding that the hosted browser retains session state.
Reduce the risk of monitoring a private page
- Prefer local checks for sensitive logins. Protect the device and browser, and account for the fact that local checks require them to be running.
- Limit the monitored account’s permissions. If the site supports a lower-privilege account or restricted access, use it rather than a session with broader permissions.
- Inspect what the monitor captures and distributes. Review the selected page content, change history, and notification destinations. Avoid sending sensitive text to channels or people who do not need it.
- Ask Distill specific questions before using cloud devices for sensitive data. Request current details on encryption, staff and service-provider access, retention and deletion of saved browser state, backups, and account/session isolation. The public materials reviewed do not answer these questions.
- Recheck authentication and results over time. A successful initial setup does not prove the monitor will remain logged in. Distill documents session expiry, access blocks, delayed page content, and configuration issues as causes of failed checks or missed changes. See its monitor troubleshooting guidance.

Can Distill notify me if a login expires?
A saved session can expire, and Distill documents authentication and access problems among causes of monitoring failures. Check the monitor’s authentication and recent results periodically.
