To save a webpage with SingleFileZ, open it while you still have a connection, wait for the page to finish loading, then click the SingleFileZ toolbar button and let the extension process it. On a slow connection, the key is to separate the time needed to load the site from the time SingleFileZ spends packaging it. If processing drags, a few options can reduce work, but disabling some of them may leave frames or images out.
Save a webpage with SingleFileZ: the basic steps
- Open the page and wait for it to load. SingleFileZ’s getting-started instructions say to wait until the page is fully loaded before clicking its toolbar button. Let important text and images appear while your connection is available.
- Click the SingleFileZ toolbar button. The extension processes the current page and saves it as a single HTML/ZIP hybrid file. Wait for processing to finish.
- Cancel if needed. If the operation is taking too long or you chose the wrong page, click the toolbar button again to cancel it.
- Check the saved file. If possible, open it while still connected and check that the content you need is present. This is a sensible check, not a guarantee that every page will be a perfect offline replica.
For other targets, SingleFileZ’s context menu can save selected content, a selected frame or link, and groups of tabs. The Mozilla add-on listing also documents a configurable Ctrl+Shift+Y shortcut. These instructions apply to the Firefox Desktop and Firefox Mobile listings, including Firefox for Android; they should not be taken as confirmation of support for every browser or device. Why saving can take a long time on a slow connection
There are two different delays: loading the original website over the network and processing the loaded page in the extension. SingleFileZ may also retrieve page resources that are present but not displayed or already cached. The project FAQ notes that this can make saving considerably slower. A complicated page can therefore take time even after its main content appears.
The SingleFileZ FAQ says, “The default configuration of SingleFileZ is optimized to produce small pages.” It identifies some processing options that can save time and CPU, but does not provide a minimum connection speed, time estimate, or benchmark. No setting can be promised to make a particular page save quickly on a given connection. SingleFileZ FAQ

Options to try when processing is too slow
Reduce cleanup work first
Open the extension’s options and turn off HTML content > remove hidden elements and Stylesheets > remove unused styles. The FAQ says these settings can save time and CPU. They change how much cleanup the extension does; they do not fix slow network loading.
Trade completeness for speed only if acceptable
If the save still takes too long, consider turning off HTML content > remove frames or Images > save deferred images. The FAQ warns that frames or images may then be missing. Avoid these changes if the content inside frames or images that load later is essential to your saved copy. SingleFileZ FAQ

What an “entire webpage” save includes—and what it may miss
SingleFileZ aims to package the page and resources such as CSS, images, fonts and frames into one HTML/ZIP hybrid file. That does not mean every saved file will reproduce every live site exactly. A page may use dynamically loaded or externally hosted resources; the extension may need to fetch assets that were not displayed or cached; and browser security restrictions can prevent extensions from operating on some domains.
- Turning off frame capture can omit frame content.
- Turning off deferred-image saving can omit images that load later.
- Some domains restrict extension access, so capture may not work there.
- Content that depends on remote services or later interaction may not behave like the live page offline.
Check the resulting file for the specific text and media you need before relying on it. SingleFileZ’s FAQ also distinguishes downloading resources from the page during capture from uploading the finished archive: it says the work is done in the browser and SingleFileZ does not upload data to third-party servers, while noting that resources found on the source page may be downloaded. Using SingleFileZ today
The SingleFileZ GitHub repository says the project has been completely merged into SingleFile. It directs users who want self-extracting files to SingleFile’s options page and its File format section, and says existing settings can be imported. The Mozilla listing still presents the SingleFileZ add-on and identifies version 1.4.45, last updated February 15, 2024; that listing date alone does not establish that the extension is broken. If you are looking for the distinct SingleFileZ extension, SingleFile’s file-format option is the project-directed equivalent to investigate. SingleFileZ repository · Mozilla Add-ons listing
The listing also describes optional Google Drive and GitHub destinations. They are follow-up destinations, not prerequisites for the basic local-save workflow. Mozilla Add-ons listing
