To keep images and fonts in a SingleFileZ offline copy, enable image embedding, make sure images and fonts are not blocked under Network, and leave “remove unused fonts” and “remove alternative fonts” off. For the most complete image copy, leave the image reduction factor at 1. Wait for the page to finish loading before saving. These are retention-first settings; the trade-off is a larger file and potentially slower processing.

How SingleFileZ stores a page

SingleFileZ is a Firefox add-on that saves a page as one HTML file that is also a ZIP archive containing page resources, including images and fonts. See the SingleFileZ listing on Mozilla Add-ons.

The detailed option descriptions available in the project help are for SingleFile, not explicitly SingleFileZ. Use them as guidance for related settings, rather than assuming every detail of SingleFile’s behavior is verified to be identical in SingleFileZ. The controls discussed below are visible in the SingleFile options interface.

Retention-first settings for images and fonts

Images

  • Enable image embedding. This allows images to be included in the saved file.
  • Do not block images. In Network options, make sure image blocking is off so the add-on can fetch them.
  • Set the image reduction factor to 1. The related SingleFile help says 1 leaves image dimensions unchanged. A factor of 2 halves dimensions; 4 reduces them to one quarter. Larger divisors can reduce file size, but dimensions and possibly image quality fall.
  • Leave “remove alternative images” off if retaining alternate-resolution variants matters more than minimizing file size.

The related help says the quality setting ranges from 0 to 1 and defaults to 0.8. It applies to resized JPEG and WEBP images; it has no effect on PNG images or when the reduction factor is 1. Lower values produce smaller, less sharp resized images, while 1 saves WEBP without loss. These details come from the SingleFile help text mirrored by Fossies, not a documented SingleFileZ-specific guarantee.

Fonts

  • Do not block fonts. Confirm the Network option for blocking fonts is off.
  • Leave “remove unused fonts” off when you want to retain font rules that may not match the content recognized by the cleanup process.
  • Leave “remove alternative fonts” off when keeping possible alternate fonts matters more than reducing the saved file size.

The related help describes unused-font removal as deleting font CSS rules that do not match content, and alternative-font removal as removing fonts that are alternatives to those used. Those controls are size optimizations, not retention-first choices. For a page whose typography is especially important, save a test copy and inspect it in the browser you intend to use offline; the available documentation does not establish that remote or unusual font setups will be preserved identically across sites.

Choose completeness, compactness, or speed

There is no universal setting that gives the smallest file, fastest save, and fullest visual fidelity at once. The related SingleFile FAQ says its defaults optimize for smaller saved pages and that processing can take considerably longer. It also warns that disabling resource-related handling can leave resources such as images or frames missing. For completeness, keep image and font fetching enabled and accept that processing may take longer. The SingleFile FAQ discusses these trade-offs.

Choice What it favors Trade-off
Reduction factor 1; keep alternative images and fonts Image dimensions and resource retention Potentially larger output and longer processing
Increase the image reduction factor or remove alternatives Smaller output Reduced image dimensions, possible quality loss, or fewer retained variants
Remove unused or alternative fonts Smaller output Font rules or alternatives that may matter to the page are discarded

Save the page and check the offline copy

  1. Open the page in Firefox and wait until it has finished loading, including images and any typography that appears after the initial render.
  2. Open SingleFileZ’s options and set image embedding on; confirm Network does not block images or fonts.
  3. For maximum retention, leave unused-font removal, alternative-font removal, and alternative-image removal off; set image reduction factor to 1.
  4. Click the SingleFileZ toolbar button to save, then open the resulting file in the browser you plan to use offline and check representative images and text styling.

The Mozilla Add-ons listing recommends waiting for the page to finish loading before clicking the toolbar button. It also says clicking the button again cancels processing. If a save appears stuck, check whether the page itself finished loading before retrying; a second toolbar click cancels rather than resumes the current processing.

Troubleshooting missing images or fonts

  • Images are absent: confirm image embedding is enabled and images are not blocked in Network. Re-save after the page has fully loaded.
  • Fonts fall back to a different typeface: confirm fonts are not blocked and that unused-font and alternative-font removal are off. Test the file in the intended offline browser, especially if the page uses remote fonts or unusual CSS.
  • Images look smaller or less sharp: restore the reduction factor to 1. If resizing is necessary, the related help says quality applies only to resized JPEG and WEBP, not PNG.
  • The file is large or the save takes a long time: that is the likely cost of retaining more resources and avoiding cleanup. If compactness matters more, test a higher reduction factor or removal options on a copy and compare the result.
  • Dynamic content seems missing: the SingleFile FAQ says scripts are removed by default because they can change rendering and are not guaranteed to work offline. Script retention is separate from image and font settings and carries its own trade-offs; missing script-generated content may not be fixed by changing resource embedding.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a screenshot rather than an editable offline HTML archive, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-call API can return an image or PDF, but it is not a replacement for SingleFileZ when you need a self-contained HTML file.
