If Save Page WE is already installed and allowed, open the webpage, click the extension’s toolbar button, and save the generated HTML file to a location permitted by your school or employer. If the extension is missing, disabled, or blocked, don’t try to bypass the restriction: ask IT whether it is approved or use a permitted built-in browser option.
What Save Page WE saves
The Chrome Web Store and Mozilla Add-ons describe Save Page WE as saving the currently displayed webpage as a single HTML file that can be opened in a browser. The Firefox listing says the extension is available for both Firefox and Chrome with identical functions and user interfaces. The Chrome listing characterizes the result as a “highly accurate representation” of the original page; that is the listing’s description, not a guarantee that every interactive feature, login state, or remote resource will work offline. Save a page with the extension
- Check whether it is available and permitted. Look for the Save Page WE toolbar button. If it is not visible, check the browser’s extension controls if your organization permits that. If the extension is absent or disabled by management, contact IT instead of installing an unapproved copy.
- Open the page you want to keep. Save Page WE is intended to capture the page as it is currently displayed.
- Click the Save Page WE toolbar button. Follow the browser’s save prompt. The Chrome listing describes two save methods: the old method remembers the last save location but may fail on some pages; the new method does not remember that location but is described as able to save all pages. Use the method offered by your installed version. The listing does not guarantee that every site will save successfully.
- Choose an approved destination. Save the file only where your school or employer allows downloads to be stored.
- Find and open the file. In Chrome, look for the download item in the download bar. To find it later, open the browser menu and choose Downloads. Chrome says opening a download opens it in the computer’s default application for that file type. See Chrome Help: Download a file.
Change Save Page WE options
The Mozilla Add-ons listing gives these routes to the extension’s options; labels may vary slightly in later browser versions:
- Firefox: Right-click the toolbar button, choose Manage Extension, open the three-dot menu, then choose Options.
- Chrome: Right-click the toolbar button and choose Options.
If Save Page WE is blocked or a page will not save
The extension is missing, disabled, or unavailable
A school or employer may manage browser settings and extension access. Google’s administrator documentation describes configurable browser policies, including URL policies, but it cannot show what your organization has set on your particular computer. Ask the administrator whether Save Page WE is approved and which locations are permitted for downloads. Do not try to get around management controls. The old save method fails
If your Chrome version offers the new method, try it. The Chrome listing says it can save pages the old method cannot, with the tradeoff that it does not remember the previous save location. This is a documented difference between methods, not a guarantee for any particular site.
You cannot find the saved file
Check the download bar or open Chrome’s Downloads page. If you still cannot locate it, ask IT where downloads are directed on that managed device; the configured destination may not be the folder you expect.

Use Firefox’s built-in save option if permitted
Firefox Help describes a built-in way to save a webpage to the computer for offline access. Its available formats differ from Save Page WE’s stated single-file output:
- Web page, HTML only saves the original page without pictures.
- Text file does not preserve the original HTML link structure.
Choose the built-in option only if it is permitted on the device and its output suits your needs. Mozilla’s help article was last updated on 11 August 2023, so labels or interface details may have changed: Mozilla Support: How to save a web page.

Keep downloads safe on a shared computer
A saved webpage is a file on the computer. Follow local rules for handling and deleting files, especially if the page contains sensitive information. The browser and extension documentation cited here does not establish your organization’s retention, monitoring, or cleanup practices, so do not assume a download is private or automatically removed.
